Leaving the Nest Senior Year Experience Committee NYUAD

Hosted by Mauricio Yanez (NYUAD'21), the fourth episode of Leaving the Nest is on the topic of building community post NYUAD. In this episode, an NYU alumni talks about what his expectations of having a community was at NYUAD and how it changed his idea of friendships/relationships . He also talks about ways of building a support system post graduation and some pieces of advice for the graduating seniors! 

Our guest speaker Abishek Mehra is a graduate from NYU Abu Dhabi  with a Bachelor of Social Research and Public Policy in 2014. He is currently working as the Director of Operations at B.E.C. Conduits Pvt Ltd, India's most reputed manufacturer of Cable Management and Cable Protection Systems. His expertise mainly lies in areas like Supply Chain Management, Enterprise Resource Planning, Material Resource Planning, System Analysis and Operations Optimization etc.

In this episode, an NYU alumni talks about some of the differences between mental health challenges in university versus after university, how NYUAD prepared her to cope with mental health challenges and what are some of the ways in which she is continuing to maintain her health and well-being. 

Our guest speaker is Farah Mohmad. Farah graduated from NYU Abu Dhabi in 2015 with a bachelors in Psychology. She then went to New York to complete her Masters in Social Work (MSW) from NYU. She is a Licensed MSW in New York State and currently works as a social worker/court justice facilitator at Centre for Court  Innovation in New York City where she is responsible for facilitating on-site and off site community service programs for participants who have received civil summonses.

In this episode, an NYUAD Alumni talks about whether her expectations for life after NYUAD matched her reality, how difficult/important was is to maintain realistic expectations for life after graduation and how she dealt with the post-graduation transition. 

Our guest speaker is Maya Morsli from NYU Abu Dhabi Class of 2019. She majored in Philosophy with a minor in Legal Studies and Art History. During her time at NYUAD, she served as the Editor in Chief of the Gazelle for a year. She is currently working as Litigation Legal Assistant at Shearman & Sterling LLP in New York City. She plans to attend law school in the coming years and is passionate about advocating for women’s issues on a legal platform.

In this episode, an NYUAD Alumni talks about her expectations before, during and after her time at NYUAD and how over time the meaning and measure of success changed for her.  

Our first guest speaker is Kelly Murphy from NYU Abu Dhabi Class of 2018. With a degree in Political Science, she was the elected president of the student government for the year 2017-2018. Kelly completed her M.Phil focused on Conflict Resolution and Reconciliation from Trinity College Dublin and is currently a member of the AmeriCorps Vista as the Community outreach Coordinator.
