    • Self-Improvement

Today we interview Kristen Herreid who is the Health and Safety Manger for the Milwaukee Fire Department. Kristen leads the Peer Support Team among other teams and initiatives in the MFD. Kristen leans heavily on role playing as a conditioning means for her staff. We look to learn why these are critical to performance of their duties and how such exercises may benefit firefighters tactically.

Training often involves physical actions to condition muscle memory. Often in training disregarded are the moral influences in firefighting as a team dynamic, as well as the context which presents in the theater of operations. Circumstances largely sway judgement, yet judgement is built through experiences. Having vicarious experiences through well orchestrated Role Playing Exercises may be the answer.
