Yaldā Night (Persian: شب یلدا shab-e yalda) or Chelle Night (also Chellah Night, Persian: شب چلّه shab-e chelle) is an ancient festival in Iran,[1][2] Afghanistan,[3] Azerbaijan, Tajikistan, Iraqi Kurdistan,[4][5] Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan, Dagestan and Turkey that is celebrated on the winter solstice.[6] This corresponds to the night of December 20/21 (±1) in the Gregorian calendar, and to the night between the last day of the ninth month (Azar) and the first day of the tenth month (Dey)[rs 2] of the Iranian solar calendar.[rs 2]

بر سنگ گوری تازه، نامی‌ هست
دارنده این نام را هرگز ندیدم من
اینجا میان سوگواران آشنایانند و خویشانند
و مردمانی هم که چون من
دارنده این نام را هرگز ندیدند و نمی دانند
اما
هرکس که اینجا هست
با خشم و فریادی ـ گره در مشت ـ
می داند ، که او را کشت؟
برگرد گور تازه جمع سوگواران است
دیگر کسی اینجا نمی پرسد:
« این خفته در خاک از کجا و از کدامان است؟»
می دانند، او فرزند ایران است.
