The Magic of Forgiving: Dr. Erica Elliott on Giving Love; Forgiving your Mom; Finding Joy; and Never Wasting a Bad Experience

Family Medicine doctor and author of “Medicine and Miracles” and “From Mountains to Medicine”, Dr. Erica Elliott, shares the story of her breakdown in her early 20s which, under the guidance of a skilled psychotherapist, lead to finding her true self at this early age. This lead to another breakthrough: Erica found love and forgiveness for her Swiss mom who was a very harsh mother. This changed not only their relationships, but Erica’s parents’ marriage, the dynamics of the whole family, and even the new generations. Erica shares this inspiring story and other deep lessons she learned both from her mom and by herself. Most importantly: the magic of forgiving, that giving love is more satisfying than receiving love, and that you should never waste a bad experience.

Celebrate Every Day: Lara Johnson on Giving Yourself Credit; Showing Up; Forgiving Flaws and Improving with Each Generation; and Following Your Dreams

A mom of four, life coach and host of “Mom on Purpose” podcast, Lara Johnson, talks about the non-profit she co-founded to help young terminally ill parents, and about her work with coaching mothers in which she teaches the most important lesson: to avoid the state of not-enoughness by celebrating your daily small achievements. She tells us about her mom Valerie who had five children but managed to pursue her careers as a nurse, and later a flight-attendant. We learn from Valerie to appreciate previous generations and forgive their flaws and continue improving with each generation; to have a sense of humor; to always show up; to follow your dreams; and most importantly: that being a good mother does not mean being a stay-at-home mom.

Saying No: Adela Mehić-Džanić on Being Independent; Marriage as a Partnership; Being Stoic; and Acting Against Domestic Violence

Telecom engineer Adela Mehić-Džanić talks about her Bosnian mom Fadila who passed away during the Bosnian war in 1993. In spite of losing her at only seven years old, Adela learned many important lessons from her mother: how vitally important it is for women to be financially independent; that a marriage should be a partnership; that we must act against domestic violence; that women need support to leave abusive relationships; but mostly to be stoic and not complain about challenges life serves us.
