If you're struggling with picky eating or appetite loss in dementia care, tune in for a fresh perspective on healthy, enjoyable eating.

    Our Guest:

Sherri Yarborough is caring for her 93 year old mother. She also started Praxis Senior Caregiving Solutions. She realized that to survive caring for her Mom, she was going to have to rectify their past relationship struggles. This episode, she shares how she made that happen.. She earned her Ph.D. in Educational Policy Studies from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. Her education as a policy analyst was an invaluable tool for managing the interpersonal changes to the relationship with her mother.

Dr. Yarbrough's decade long experience as a family care-giver has taught Dr. Yarbrough the importance of including herself and her needs in the care journey with her mother. Dr. Yarbrough’s ability to view a circumstance from multiple perspectives became the genesis for her Praxis for Care. The Praxis for Care is a strategy that helps family care-givers identify what they need in order to meet the needs of a loved one. The Praxis for Care is the foundation for her motto: care-giving is what you do for your loved one; giving-care is what you do for both of you. She created her business to give family care-givers a resource for navigating the demands of caring for a loved one.

Caring for Elderly Parents Who Live Alone

Caring for Elderly Parents Who Live Alone

"Caring for Elderly Parents Who Live Alone : The I Am Fine Product Story" shares a son's innovative solution for monitoring his mom's wellbeing from across the country. As a tech entrepreneur, he leveraged his expertise to develop the I Am Fine system - providing peace of mind for families with elderly parents living independently. Learn how this simple daily call check-in, with customizable call times and backup alerts, can eliminate the stress of juggling your own life demands while ensuring your elderly parent is safe. Gain insights into using technology to support aging in place, prevent isolation, and embrace your loved one's independence, all while safeguarding their health from afar. If you're a long-distance caregiver for elderly parents, this episode offers a practical solution.

    Our Guest - Paul Hammond

Iamfine is the brainchild of Colin and Paul Hammond. Colin lives in the UK while his brother Paul lives on the west coast of America.  They designed Iamfine to help them both keep in touch with their mother Isobel who lives alone in Florida.

The brothers regularly speak to their mother and visit several times a year, but busy schedules mean they struggle to check on her every day. Although in her mid-90s, Isobel is healthy, plays golf twice a week, lives in her own home and loves life.  Like many elderly people living alone, she is fiercely independent and doesn’t want her sons to be worrying about her.

In-Home Medical Care: The Key to Independent Living for Seniors

In-Home Medical Care: The Key to Independent Living for Seniors

June is Alzheimer's & Brain Health Awareness Month, so we're re-braodcasting past episodes on brain health and healthy living.

In-Home Medical Care: The Key to Independent Living for Seniors. In-home care plays a pivotal role in ensuring optimal brain health for those seeking to maintain an independent lifestyle. The personalized attention provided in a home setting fosters a nurturing environment that promotes cognitive well-being. Doctors and caregivers, trained to address specific health needs, integrate brain health strategies into daily routines. This tailored approach not only supports individuals with cognitive challenges but also enhances overall mental well-being. Emphasizing the synergy between home and health, this holistic care model empowers individuals to lead independent lives while receiving the specialized attention necessary for preserving and improving cognitive function.

    Staying Independent

In the realm of independent living, in-home care emerges as a cornerstone for sustaining brain health. The home environment, familiar and comfortable, serves as the ideal backdrop for implementing personalized care plans. From engaging in brain-stimulating activities to promoting a nutritious diet, home care providers prioritize holistic approaches to enhance cognitive resilience. Moreover, fostering independence goes hand in hand with prioritizing mental well-being, as caregivers create supportive spaces that encourage autonomy. As we navigate the evolving landscape of healthcare, home care stands out as a beacon for those seeking to preserve their cognitive vitality, promoting not only health but a fulfilling and independent way of living.

To wrap up our enlightening chat, Dr. Allen introduces us to her membership-based model for holistic care and the rising trend of concierge medicine. We discuss how this innovative approach can support those with limited access to healthcare services, manage medical issues at home, and offer an alternative for caregivers struggling with inaccessible infrastructure. We also highlight the pressing need for a more effective system to provide care for those with Alzheimer's. Tune in for this essential conversation- it's a must-listen if you're a caregiver or know someone who is.
