The Disappearance of Madeleine McCann Not Ur Mom's Crime Pod!

    • True Crime

3-year-old Madeleine was on vacation with her family in Praia De Luz, Portugal when she went missing. Her family discovered her missing from her bed shortly after dinner. Madeleine’s parents tried unsuccessfully for years to have a child and eventually resorted to IVF. 9 months later Madeleine was born. Both of Madeleine’s parents worked in the medical field and had gone on this vacation with 9 adults and several other children. The resort where the families were staying was an upper-class resort where younger kids could attend what they refer to in the Netflix docuseries as the “kids club” while the adults spent time being social, playing tennis, and sailing. About a week into their vacation the adults noticed that the kids were growing extra tired from all of the activities during the day and on May 3rd Madeleine even requested she be carried back from the kiddie club because she was too tired to walk. Madeleine’s mother Kate read a story to all of the children and Madeleine was nearly asleep by the time the book was finished. Kate said that she got Madeleine into bed and began getting ready for dinner. The family’s apartment was about 100 yards walking distance from the Tapas restaurant where the adults had eaten dinner most nights. Every twenty minutes, one of them would go check on the children who were asleep to make sure they were all safe. On the evening of May 3rd the adults went to the Tapas restaurant around 8:30 pm. They checked on the children at around 9 pm and again at 9:30 and everything was fine the children were asleep in their beds. At 10 pm it was Kate’s turn to check on the children and she said she noticed a little more light on than she had expected to see. And when she went to open Madeleine's door it slammed shut. She opened the door and this is when she noticed that the window was open and the shutters were pulled up and Madeleine was not in her bed. She immediately ran back to the restaurant to let the others know that Madeleine was missing. In no time at all there were people everywhere looking for Madeleine. Shortly later people reported hearing an awful sound. It was Kate crying out in agony about her missing daughter. The first time the police were called, they did not respond. Gerry, Madeleine’s father, and a friend went to the service desk at the resort and pleaded with them to please call the police again. Finally, the police showed up. Apparently, there were two police departments in this area. One for small crimes and the major crimes unit. After hours of searching for little Madeleine, the major crimes unit was finally contacted. They immediately sent an investigator to the apartment where Madeleine’s family was staying however because it took so long to contact the proper authorities the investigation itself was also delayed. Also, in Portugal, the disappearance of a human is not a crime. Therefore, the chief of police stated that they were unable to treat the incident as such. There was a man named Robert Murat who had been helping translate for the family in the days after Madeleine’s disappearance. A few reporters claimed that Mr. Murat was too involved in the case and suspicious acting and he eventually became a suspect. The police raided Mr. Murat's home but didn’t find any incriminating evidence and after interrogating him had to release him.
