There’s a reason the Bible has been a bestseller for so many millennium. But for some it's daunting to learn about Christianity. I felt the same way. So when I started asking questions, I also pressed "Record" and these are the conversations we had. Listen as I, the curious, confused Christian asks questions to theological experts.
The Bible, but understood in modern context. We take passages, parables, and prophecy, and understand the context of events, and help you understand how those words/events would look like today. Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/biblically-speaking-cb/support

#21 UNDERSTANDING JOB'S PURPOSE + Dr. John Walton
Dr. John Walton is a distinguished Old Testament scholar with extensive expertise in the Book of Job, having published a comprehensive commentary in 2014 and co-authored "How to Read Job" with Tremper Longman. Walton's perspective on Job emphasizes the text as a thought experiment rather than a historical account, focusing on the profound dialogue between Job and God. He underscores the limitations of human understanding and the complexity of divine justice, which transcend the simplistic retribution principle. Through his teachings and lectures worldwide, Dr. Walton illuminates the nuanced perspectives within the narrative, including the unique stance of the character Elihu, thereby enriching the global discourse on faith, suffering, and divine justice.

#20 UNDERSTANDING HOW TO PRAY AND HEAR GOD + Dr. Robert Miller
Dr. Robert Miller, a distinguished professor and theologian, brings a profound perspective to the topic of understanding God's voice. Emphasizing the importance of setting aside dedicated time and space for prayer, Dr. Miller likens the practice to making an appointment with a doctor, advocating for an approach marked by trust and openness to divine transformation rather than an attempt to alter God's will. He underscores the significance of scriptures, particularly the gospels, as the primary medium through which God communicates with us today, encouraging thoughtful reflection to discern His voice. Dr. Miller's insights, rooted in humility and receptivity, aim to help individuals align their wills with God's, fostering a deeper, more meaningful prayer life.

#19 UNDERSTANDING UFOs AND OCCULTS + Dr. Mark Clark
Dr. Mark Clark is a seasoned professional with a 30-year background in national security, who also delves into the fascinating realm of UFOs and anomalous phenomena. His perspective on this topic is a unique intersection of scientific investigation, biblical views, and his national security expertise. He recognizes the common belief in extraterrestrial life and the ongoing scientific search for them, yet he also warns of the potential spiritual and physical risks linked to UFO encounters. Through his RUFO hypothesis, Dr. Clark suggests that while many UFO sightings are merely misinterpretations of natural occurrences, there's a residual element of unidentified and possibly extraterrestrial encounters. In his approach, he merges biblical teachings, scientific research, and national security factors, presenting a multifaceted perspective on the implications of UFO phenomena for both individuals and society as a whole.
Mark T. Clark, Ph. D., is an Emeritus Professor of Political Science and National Security Studies at California State University, San Bernardino. In addition to his career, Clark has co-hosted the TBN series Reasons to Believe, co-authored Lights in the Sky and Little Green Men (2002) with Hugh Ross and Ken Samples, and is a member of the Scholar Community at Reasons to Believe. Clark served in the U.S. Marine Corps from 1973 to 1977.

#17 UNDERSTANDING JONAH + Justin Gerhardt @HolyGhostStories

Justin Gerhardt is a chronically curious storyteller. He is the creator of the podcast Holy Ghost Stories—an episodic, immersive telling of the stories of the Old Testament with a focus on character and craft. He also serves as the founder and president of Hazefire Studios, a nonprofit devoted to expanding the intersection of story and worship.
With a degree in philosophy and Biblical studies, Justin worked for 20 years as a minister and preacher before feeling called to explore new ways to share Scripture with an increasingly irreligious world. To cut costs as he began Holy Ghost Stories in 2021, Justin and his family embarked on a 2-year-long season of global nomadism that took them to England, Croatia, Ireland, Greece, Egypt, and South Africa.
Today, Justin and his wife, author JL Gerhardt, work as partners at Hazefire Studios on various projects, including live storytelling events, training for creatives, and The Storied Family—a parenting workshop designed to help families establish their identity in the context of God’s story. Every other week, he publishes “The Latest,” a newsletter devoted to his newest projects and discoveries. This spring, Justin and acclaimed cellist Kendall Ramseur are taking Holy Ghost Stories on tour, bringing a multi-dimensional experience with the story of The Exodus to audiences in six U.S. cities.
