Understanding Medicaid Managed Care Programs in Florida | Part 1
In Florida, most Medicaid recipients are enrolled in the Statewide Medicaid Managed Care (SMMC) program. The program has three parts: Managed Medical Assistance, Long-Term Care, and Dental. People on Medicaid will get services using one or more of these plan types:
1. Managed Medical Assistance (MMA)
2. Long-Term Care (LTC)
3. Dental (All people on Medicaid must enroll in a dental plan.)
Eligibility in Florida for SMMC LTC benefits include:
1. Be a legal Florida resident
2. Minimum of 65 years of age OR between 18 and 64 years old and designated as disabled by the SSA (Social Security Administration)
3. Need "nursing facility/higher level of care" (assistance with activities of daily living, ADL's - not necessarily needing a nursing home)
4. Meet the financial requirements as an individual or as a couple for Florida Medicaid
