Welcome to The One Beer in Podcast!

We're two best friends that enjoy getting on each others' nerves and talking crap while enjoying a good beer (or two). This podcast is your invitation into our colorful conversations that range from PlayStation to Internet politics. Strap in -- this is very much a conversational podcast, as we take a layman's point-of-view and discuss our interests: beer, video games, movies, tech, entertainment and basically any rabbit hole that we may wander into along the way.

We often end our podcast with a beer review, and sometimes sneak in a bonus brew, so stay tuned.

Cheers

The Fall Of Chipotle | Ep. 426

The Fall Of Chipotle | Ep. 426

    #craftbeer #chipotle #blockout2024
Chipotle was once the great fast-casual restaurant on the hill — but now, it's known for skimping on both quality and quantity. What happened and how did this once ubiquitous chain slip from greatness. But Chipotle isn't alone. A handful of middle-range restaurants are facing closures and bankruptcy. Why isn't the middle class going out to eat anymore?

Shifting gears, we dip into the recent online protests against celebrities who aren't vocal around the ongoing crisis in the Gaza Strip. Is Blockout 2024 an effective way to protest or is it a "black square" virtue signal by people who don't really care about helping those in need? Even more importantly, do celebrities have a responsibility to help if they can?

Then, we dig into yet another controversy in video game news, this time surrounding Assassin's Creed Shadows. Finally set in feudal Japan, the recently announced game should be a slam dunk, as fans have long requested a game in this time and place. However, with a black protagonist samurai (the legendary Yasuke) and female ninja as the stars, the internet outrage was as swift as a katana. Do the "anti-DEI" crowd have a point or is this just another case of "everything I don't like is woke?"

Happy Beef-mas (War Is Over) | Ep. 425

    #craftbeer #drake #childishgambino
After a hard-fought battle of hip-hop beef, the war is seemingly over — and though Drake fired last, he's taken home the loss. Between the smash success of Kendrick Lamar's "Not Like Us" and Metro Boomin's viral instrumental "BBL Drizzy," we've got to wonder how Drake will bounce back. Besides the music itself, we also talk about the way this phenomenon has been discussed, especially with those who aren't scholars of hip-hop, those who are black culture vultures, and others.

Then, we hop over to the reassessment of Childish Gambino's highly praised "This Is America." Why does the internet suddenly hate the song and was it actually overrated — or is this another case of contrarian criticism for the sake of it.

Finally, we get into some gamer talk with massive layoffs at Microsoft's acquired gaming studios and speculation on the recently confirmed successor to the Nintendo Switch. What do we want and what do we think we'll get from those mad lads at Nintendo?

    Sein-fell Off | Ep. 424

    #craftbeer #seinfeld #mcu
After another check-in with Drake and Kendrick Lamar beef, we dive into why the guy famous for making mundane observations is the newest crusader against "woke." Jerry Seinfeld now blames woke ideology and cancel culture for what he sees as a lack of TV comedy (ignoring the likes of Always Sunny In Philadelphia, South Park, Abbott Elementary, and many others). Finally, MCU alumnus Joe Russo thinks the super hero slump is because those youngsters don't want to go to the theater anymore. All that, plus a light beer to keep us (kinda) lucid. Cheers!

    Where's The Beef? | Ep. 421

    Where's The Beef? | Ep. 421

You smell that? That's some prime-cut, USDA-certified rap beef in the air. Before we hop into the cypher, we have to touch on the epic show that was WrestleMania 40.

Then, it's on to Kendrick Lamar's Drake diss, J. Cole's diss-turned-apology aimed at Kendrick, and the wait for Drake's response (which we got soon after recording --- soon to be discussed on a later episode).

We've also got a pair of trailers hot off the presses, featuring Ti West's trilogy capper, MaXXXine, and the Joker sequel.

Finally, we end with the unfortunate events that've rocked a fan-favorite brewery to our southwest. Cigar City Brewing has been gutted of its heart and soul by owners, Monster, laying off 12 workers including the legendary brew master, Wayne Wambles.

There's going out sad, and then there's this --- a not-so-friendly reminder that your favorite local craft brewery needs your patronage more than the evil empires of the craft beer world. RIP to the craft brewery that helped spark this show in the first place. You can still buy Jai Alai and visit the brewhouse but without the people who helped Cigar City become a pillar of Florida craft beer, the forecast is anything but sunshine and rainbows.

    ...anyway, Cheers!
