S4 E41 - From her rorschach test masks to her controversial subject matter, Mason Carlisle is stirring things up in a good way.
Mason Carlisle RETURNS!
Mason first came on the podcast in September of 2022 for Suicide Awareness month. For the final Friday of September I introduced this remarkable young woman who has faced and fought so much suicide in her life. Mason Carlisle is a child sexual abuse survivor, child abuse survivor, she lost her father to an overdose, walked in on her brother's attempt and lost 8 people to suicide. Mason just published a book about PTSD and trauma. It’s a fictional ya novel centered around a school shooting survivor. We also discuss how her outlook on this endeavor changed when the most recent school shooting occurred. We talk about trauma, suicide, and our mutual love of and Bruce Willis.

He was picking up his young son on Halloween day when masked gunman drove up beside him and sprayed his car with bullets. As devastating as the event was, his last act was to save his son's life by telling him to get down. His daughter, then seventeen years old, tells the story now. S4 BONUS episode - Remembering the Holocaust with Robert Wolf, M.D.
His parents wrote his father's autobiography in the 1970's but Robert Wolf didn't explore the depths of their work until after his parents had both passed. Now, after having written and published the story and winning four recognizable achievement awards for the book and speaking all over the world, Robert was gracious enough to spend an afternoon with me.

S4 E39 - He grew up with concentration camp bedtime stories, but Max Friedman knew that unless he learned more, the past would remain a mystery.
Max Friedman wasn't the kind of man to just sit idle and not worry about what the answer might be when his young grandson asked him what it meant to be a survivor. Instead, he took it upon himself to discover the truth about his family, their histories, their traumas, and what it meant to be a member of a holocaust survivor family. In this episode Max takes us on an adventure from Sweden to Poland, from Coney Island to concentration camps. His story will turn your mind in new directions. Jane-Marie Auret knew more about my foster care than I did!
It's amazing when you sit down to have a conversation with someone you've never met, and they just happen to specialize in all the things that you went through and can tell you (for the first time in your life) what the good things were that you received from a situation. That was the conversation with Jane-Marie, who absolutely blew me away. She's amazing!

S4 E38 - The alcohol addiction, the depression, the self harm - they were signs of a deeper issue. Tamara didn't realize she was a survivor of trauma.
The first stage of trauma is denial. Tamara lived in denial of her own trauma for a great many years. When finally she started to acknowledge it, she'd already suffered from alcohol addiction, depression, suicidal fantasies, denial, and so much more. Memories of her early childhood manifested as things she thought others had told her they had witnessed. The truth shocked her - and forced her to dig deeper. Now Tamara lives in Nashville, TN with her husband and 2 perfect daughters. She works with other alcoholics in recovery, and she has a huge heart for sharing her journey of recovery, health and wellness with others. This interview will impact your life in ways unimaginable.
