Shopping for new clothes is a favourite past-time and stress reliever that most turn to for some respite. Whether it is in treating ourselves to a new dress for a wedding or buying that new loungewear set for comfort during those lockdowns, we will find every excuse to make a purchase. And by the end of every year we try hard to declutter our overflowing wardrobes. Yet, come the new year, we do it all over again. Is there any way around to finally setting our resolutions to breaking those habits in the new year? 2. Dismantling biases of moms and age - featuring Sher-li Torrey, Founder of Mums@Work

Dismantling biases of moms and age - featuring Sher-li Torrey, Founder of Mums@Work

Being a mom changes a lot of things for a woman. While the most obvious change is that in your body, there are a lot more changes to that than meets the eye. In this podcast episode, I speak with Sher-li Torrey, founder of Mums@Work, a platform helping mothers in Singapore find work-family balance since 2010. Like many other professional mothers in Singapore, Sher-li Torrey couldn't find meaningful flexiwork jobs when her first child was born. This inspired her to set up Mums@Work to list genuine flexi-work, offer career fairs and training workshops, creating a network of like-minded mothers. And she didn't stop there.  Most recently, Sher-li initiated the 40 Over 40 awards to challenge the culture of ageism at the workplace. In a society that highlights the spunk and never-ending energy of the young, this project embraces the transformational journeys of 40 women in Singapore, over 40 years of age – sharing their tales of ‘taking a risk’ to breathe life into their career aspirations, despite the odds. Tune in to find out how you can benefit from the work that Sher-li and her team does, and be inspired that whatever changes you face in life as a woman, be it motherhood or tipping over into 40, there are others like her out there to cheer you on and to support you.  Visit http://mumsatwork.net to find out more! Upcycling made possible - featuring Natacha Chapon, founder of The Thread Loop

When one thinks of upcycling, the simplest interpretation would be to sell preloved clothes to someone else or creating a pair of denim shorts from jeans. Natacha Chapon, founder of The Thread Loop takes us further behind the scenes of her low impact fashion boutique that upcycles deadstocks, offcuts, over-production and vintage fabrics to produce high quality bags and accessories.  In this episode, we discuss why quality matters in upcycling - whether selling secondhand or creating a new line of products, and why taking that bit of effort to be sustainable can make a world of difference. Tune in as Natacha reveals the amount of waste that occurs in the textile supply chain that is rarely seen by the end consumer and why working in the industry inspired her to start The Thread Loop in Singapore. Find out also how she uses her textile expertise to adapt products suitable for both the Asian and European markets, yet keeping things local to ensure sustainability. If you are in Singapore and want to support a local brand, consider The Thread Loop for its functional designs and durable quality. 4. What is Sustainability - Featuring Anisa Johnny, co-founder of Style Nomads

What is Sustainability - Featuring Anisa Johnny, co-founder of Style Nomads

It took us a long time to be able to talk about sustainability properly without greenwashing the topic or worse, sending conflicting messages with what we promote. After all, we do not pride ourselves to be a sustainable brand, simply one that supports sustainability by encouraging customers to buy only what they need. But after much groundwork, conversations with our stylists, industry advocates, and deep research (which really was just in one book Fashionopolis) we are finally able to discuss the topic in what we believe to be a meaningful manner. To share what sustainability really means. And when we say discuss, we truly mean it. We kickstarted this podcast just for the purpose of discussion with industry advocates. Our very first guest Anisa Johnny is the co-founder of social enterprise Style Nomads. Style Nomads is supporting single Mums by training them to make quality non tarnish lightweight jewellery. Anisa is also a Senior Lecturer in Fashion Marketing and Management at Raffles College and started her career in fashion at the buying department of Marks & Spencers. Having run her own fashion label in the UK and showcased collections at London Fashion Week, consulted as a Product Developer for brands such as Topshop, she has deep knowledge of what goes on behind the scenes. She was also recently awarded The Finder's Expatpreneur Awards 2021 and we are so blessed to have Anisa as our mentor at Girlsourced having her guidance since we kickstarted the business.  Tune in to this episode of Girlsourced Chats to hear more about how Anisa went from fast fashion buyer to sustainability advocate. You will learn from Anisa how you as a consumer or even a brand can be more sustainable and hopefully be inspired to play a part in saving our planet.  To find out more about Style Nomads and to support their mission, visit the following links: Website : https://stylenomads.com/ Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/wearestylenomads Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/WeareStyleNomads If you are looking to start somewhere with sustainability, our stylists at Girlsourced can also help you on your journey. We encourage all customers to wear what you already have and buy only what you need. This means looking at your wardrobe with new eyes, where a Girlsourced stylist can help create looks that makes your wardrobe as good as new. If you are definitely missing a few key pieces, a styling session can also help you to identify what really suits you before you jump into a purchase.
