Tom Sileo has authored or co-authored six military non-fiction books about heroes of America's post-9/11 wars in Afghanistan and Iraq. Among those titles is Three Wise Men; Tom's widely praised 2021 collaboration with combat veteran and Gold Star brother Beau Wise. Tom is a contributing senior editor of The Stream and a recipient of the Marine Corps Heritage Foundation's General Oliver P. Smith Award for distinguished reporting. He is a graduate of Rutgers University and lives in Delray Beach, Florida.

The story of U.S. Army Staff Sgt. Michael Ollis, who became an international hero for his courage and selflessness.

Ever since he was a young boy growing up on the streets of Staten Island, New York, Michael Ollis wanted to be a soldier. Inspired by his father, who fought in Vietnam, Mike’s deep desire to serve was cemented on the day his beloved city was attacked. From 9/11 onward, Mike’s one and only mission was to save lives.

After two tense combat deployments, Staff Sergeant Michael Ollis earned the US Army’s coveted Ranger tab and set his sights on the perilous mountains of eastern Afghanistan. On August 28, 2013, Mike was suddenly caught in the middle of a massive and unprecedented Taliban assault on a coalition military base. Rather than retreat to his bunker, Mike decided to fight. He then encountered a Polish army officer who needed his help.

Despite being surrounded by enemy fighters while running low on ammunition, Mike promised the foreign soldier that no matter what, he would have his back. For his final act of bravery, Staff Sergeant Michael Ollis would not only receive the Distinguished Service Cross from his own country, but the highest honor that Poland can bestow upon an allied soldier.

MICHAEL RAPAPORT BIO (FROM IMDB)

A New Yorker through and through, Michael Rapaport was born on March 20, 1970, in Manhattan, to June Brody, a radio personality, and David Rapaport, a radio program manager. He is of Polish Jewish and Russian Jewish descent.

Rapaport moved to Los Angeles to try stand-up comedy following high school graduation (which came after a series of expulsions), but he never lost, forgot or deserted his New York roots. It's embedded in his work and is a major part of his low-keyed charm and ongoing appeal. His early idols were also New Yorkers (Robert De Niro, Christopher Walken, etc.).

Within a short amount of time Michael moved from the live comedy stage to working in front of a camera. The two developed an immediate rapport. A guest spot on the TV series China Beach (1988) led to a starring role in the quirky interracial indie Zebrahead (1992), which clinched it for him. This, in turn, led to a string of standout parts in films, such as Christian Slater's pal in True Romance (1993), an edgy collegiate-turned-skinhead in Higher Learning (1995) and a sympathetic none-too-bright boxer in Woody Allen's Mighty Aphrodite (1995), all enabling him to build up a higher profile.

In later years, Michael managed to show his ease at offbeat comedy, demonstrating a kid-like, goofy charm as Lisa Kudrow's cop boyfriend for a few episodes on Friends (1994) and as teacher Danny Hanson on Boston Public (2000).

He later formed his own production company, Release Entertainment, in search of that one big breakout role that could nab top stardom for him. In later years, his offbeat character leads included an inducted mafioso in Kiss Toledo Goodbye (1999); a hit man in the action comedy A Good Night to Die (2003); a comic book fanatic in the sci-fi comedy Special (2006); a trouble-making buddy in crime drama Inside Out (2011); a man helping out his former gangster neighbor in the dramedy Once Upon a Time in...

ASHER HAVON CROWNED SEASON 25 WINNER OF 'THE VOICE'

Asher HaVon, a 31-year-old soulful gospel and R&B artist from Selma, Ala., was named champion of "The Voice" Season 25.

HaVon faced off against a chorus of formidable competitors. Other finalists this season included teammate Josh Sanders from Team Reba, Bryan Olesen and Nathan Chester from Team Legend, and Karen Waldrup from Team Dan + Shay.

In his Blind Audition, HaVon showed off his gospel choir roots with a powerful rendition of Adele's "Set Fire to the Rain," which had Reba, Chance and Dan + Shay campaigning for him. He ultimately chose to join Team Reba, where he and teammate Alyssa Crosby performed a rousing duet of Tina Turner's "We Don't Need Another Hero (Thunderdome)" during the Battle Round. In the Knockout round, he had all the coaches on their feet during a showstopping performance of Toni Braxton's "Unbreak My Heart." During both rounds, Reba choseHaVon to move on while his teammates were quickly stolen by other coaches. During the Playoffs, HaVon gave the audience chills with an emotional rendition of David Guetta and Sia's "Titanium," securing a spot in the Top 12. In the first live show, he performed "I'll Make Love to You" byBoyz II Men, wowing with his technical ability.

During the semifinals, HaVon joined Madison Curbelo and Serenity Arce for a haunting trio performance of "Fix You" by Coldplay and then stepped outside his comfort zone with his version of Beyoncé's massive hit "Irreplaceable." On Monday night's telecast, HaVoncontinued to impress the coaches and viewers alike with an up-tempo live performance of "Last Dance" by Donna Summer as well as a down-tempo performance of "I Will Always Love You" by Whitney Houston.

Before being crowned the winner at the conclusion of tonight's finale, HaVon was joined on stage by coach Reba McEntire for a soulful duet of "On My Own," by Patti LaBelle and Michael McDonald.

Following her first win, coach Reba McEntire will return to "The Voice" Season 26 as the reigning champ, alongside new coaches Snoop Dogg and Michael Bublé and returning coach Gwen Stefani.

HaVon's presence on the show's social media platforms this season garnered immense popularity. His performances accumulated 11.6 million views across "The Voice" pages on Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, Twitter, and YouTube.

Growing up in Selma, HaVon was surrounded by gospel singers. Asher's mom, whom he likes to call his singing sergeant, really pushed him to sing at a young age. His first major performance came in 2015 when President Obama came to Selma for a speech commemorating the 50th anniversary of the 1965 march from Selma to Montgomery in honor of African-American civil rights. Asher auditioned for a spot in the choir that was set to perform John Legend and Common's song "Glory." The choir director was so blown away that he chose Asher to lead the choir that day, performing in front of 200,000 people.

"The Voice" is the most-watched alternative series for the 2023-24 season (L7).
