Josie is a multimedia artist and educator from the Bay Area and explores diverse cultural identities, drawing from her mixed-race heritage. Inspired by San Francisco, the California coast, and various art forms such as music and literature, her work delves into human experiences, merging personal introspection with collective knowledge. Josie is a recipient of the Homebody Fellowship for QTBIPOC artists based in the San Francisco Bay Area for the Artist Residency Program at Ma’s House. Chosen artists are awarded an additional unrestricted stipend during the residency, which spans two weeks at Ma’s House on the Shinnecock Indian Reservation in Southampton, NY.
This opportunity is made possible by the Homebody Fund, a small donor-advised fund at East Bay Community Foundation, resourcing POC—especially QTPOC—spiritual/healing spaces that support community leadership and cultural transformation in decolonial movements for liberation, especially in the East Bay Area.

Artist Profile 
Kindall Gant (she/they) is a Black femme poet and New Orleans native based in Brooklyn. She experiments with visual storytelling as liberation through themes of home, heritage and history, bringing poems into conversation with expressive forms like film, visual art, music and photography. They have received support from Cave Canem, the Poetry Foundation, MASS MoCA, the Saltonstall Foundation, and the Watering Hole among other arts institutions. Her work has been nominated for Best of the Net and a Pushcart Prize. Poems appear or are forthcoming in Torch, the What a Time to Be Alive zine carried at the Hopscotch Reading Room in Berlin, the 1619 Speaks anthology published by the Sims Library of Poetry, Brooklyn Poets, Obsidian, and Polemical Zine. They are an MFA in poetry candidate at The New School.

Rebekah Phoenix Wise (b. 1989) is a photographer who specializes in portraits and event photography. She is a proud member of the Shinnecock Indian Nation in Southampton, NY, and grew up on the Shinnecock Reservation. Her unique perspective on indigenous life is reflected in her work, which explores themes such as happiness, community, tradition, and modernity. Rebekah is passionate about breaking stereotypes and is committed to showcasing the joy and positivity within Native American culture.

Artist Profile
Vega creates drawings, objects, sculptural installations, and happenings inspired by local markets, self-made architecture, and vendor carts found in the streets and beaches of Central America. His sculptures are Third World replicas of the sophisticated capsules and satellites developed by NASA and the Soviet Space Program during the ‘Space Race’; however, they are assembled with found materials, including transmutable elements, colored lights, and live plants. This series, titled Tropical Space Proyectos, comments on the effects of the Cold War in contemporary El Salvador and Central America. In other artworks, the artist reinterprets ancient Mesoamerican architectural sculpture, Modernism’s iconic buildings, and contemporary surveillance systems, creating an ironic and humorous fusion between past and present, first and third worlds.
Born in El Salvador in 1972, Simón Vega graduated in Fine Arts at the University of Veracruz in Mexico in 2000. He received a Master´s in Contemporary Arts from the Complutense University in Madrid in 2006.
He has exhibited his work extensively in Europe, the United States and Latin America, including the 55th Venice Biennial in Italy (2013), the IX Havana Biennial in Cuba (2006), at the Coachella Music Festival in Indio, California (2018), at the Bronx Museum in New York (2019), at the Centre Pompidou, París for the exhibition Cosmópolis 2 (2019) and at the Museo Reina Sofía in Madrid amongst others. He has had solo exhibitions at the Museum of Contemporary Art and Design in Costa Rica, at Locust Projects, Miami, Liliana Bloch Gallery, Dallas, Texas, and at the Hilger Next Gallery in Vienna

Artist Profile
In 2019, Anangookwe obtained their BFA focusing on Jewelry Design from the Institute of American Indian Arts in Santa Fe, New Mexico. Since graduating, Anangookwe’s visual work has been exhibited across the United States in galleries such as All My Relations Gallery (Minneapolis, Minnesota), The New Gallery (Clarksville, Tennesse), and Form & Concept (Santa Fe, New Mexico). Anangookwe is the recipient of residencies, grants, and awards through Vermont Studio Center, Green Olive Arts (Tetouan, Morocco), and Alaska State Council on the Arts. In 2023, they received an honorable mention for the James Welch Poetry Prize and were a 2019 SITE Santa Fe Scholar. Anangookwe currently resides in Anchorage, AK, and performs at the monthly Writers Block slam poetry nights.
