Former University of Miami safety Selwyn Brown played on some of the great teams Hurricane football history. A graduate of Northeast High School in St. Petersburg, FL, Brown came to UM in 1983 along with his high school teammate tight end Charles Henry. After sitting out as a red shirt during the 1983 national championship season, Brown became an integral part of a Canes secondary nicknamed "Bennie and the Jets" led by All American Bennie Blades and included corner-backs Tolbert Bain and Donald Ellis. He became a starter in 1985 and shared playing time with Darrell Fullington at strong safety.
