Getting Others to Perform - Empower Them
Hi Everyone, Carl Gould here your #70secondCEO, just over a minute of investment per day for a lifetime of results.
You need to get others to perform at a high level. That means you have to empower them, that means you have to coach them, guide them, and mentor them. So let me give you a couple of statistics here to play around with a couple of formulas for how you spend your time. Alright, you are gonna take on in Stage 3 here, is “How well do you get others to perform at a high level?” So I'm gonna give you a little time management formula called 20-20-60: 20% of your time, 20% of your time, 60 % of your time. So in Stage 3, 20% of your time should be spent coaching, guiding, enabling, and mentoring others to make them better. You ever hear the expression “you have to manage up and coach up?” That's right. You coach, you're a manager on how to interact with you better. You coach your stakeholders, your colleagues, the people that you deal with on a regular basis that are one degree of separation from you. And if there's anyone who does report to you, you coach and empower down as well. So you become the center of a coaching and empowerment network or ecosystem. And that's how you’re gonna make them better.
20% of your time on coaching, mentoring, guiding, and enabling.
20% of your time on strategic thinking: How do I make things better? How do I plan? How do I set goals? And how do I achieve those goals?
And then 60% of your time on your job description.

    Carl-Gould-#70secondCEO-Making Your Voice STAND out

    Making Your Voice STAND out
Hi Everyone, Carl Gould here your #70secondCEO, just over a minute of  investment per day for a lifetime of results.
Remember the story about the March of the Penguins? We thought it was a penguin movie in the beginning but what it really was was a dating movie. Our stars, the first penguin in the beginning, in the first scene, turns the corner, now he's one of a dozen; turns the corner again, now he's in a colony of 10,000. Our penguin, our Star Penguin, we don't see him for the rest of the movie and we don't know how he does. In the beginning, there was no competition, there was just him. Then he's 1 out of 12, then he's 1 out of 10,000.
You know, that's a great metaphor for the way business is today. Because the internet and social media has flattened the plane. Everybody is part of the colony. And you know, you could say, “Well that's great. Everybody has an entrypoint.” However, there's so much noise. If you remember from the movie, there's so much noise you can't distinguish one voice from the other voice. And the goal here is to be DIFFERENT and BETTER- not just different to be different- different and better. You need to be adding value in becoming a Thought Leader so your voice stands above.

Open Your Eyes to New Perspectives
Hi Everyone, Carl Gould here your #70secondCEO, just over a minute of investment per day for a lifetime of results.
So if you're a big picture driver type person and you're results-focused, you need to get around people who enjoy process. So get around professional organizers, go take that class, you know, go take that lean manufacturing, or Six Sigma class online. Get around process people, and learn how they think.
If you're a sales and marketing relationship type person, you really don't like the numbers and detail bugs you down, go take that accounting course. Yes, I said it. Go take the accounting course. Or coding or something that's gonna require you to do really intricate detail, model building, something that makes you focused on the tiniest little aspect. Those folks think differently and they will open your eyes to new perspectives.
If you're a systems and process person, go around, go play undercover boss, alright? Go spend a week in the business of one of your colleagues, and sit in on their board meetings. Think about how they, look at how they think differently and they think big or go to a growth conference and get around entrepreneurs who have wild ideas or go to an innovation center or an incubator and get around some young entrepreneurs and how their idealistic tendencies and they're thinking you'll launch its new products. It'll give you some real perspective.

Find Yourself and Lose Yourself  in Your Work
Hi Everybody, Carl Gould here with your #70secondCEO, just a one minute investment per day for a lifetime of results.
Today's talk is all about find yourself in your work and lose yourself in your work. Find yourself in your work meaning, what are you passionate about? What are the things that are going to stretch you and are going to make you into the next chapter of the best version of yourself?
OK, in order to do that, in order to find yourself when you work, you have to lose yourself IN your work, in other words, you have to find out, what really challenges you? And what really stimulates you about your work?
There was a time I had a construction company that I hated. You know what I really did like? Negotiating the deal, designing the site and doing that work and then at the very end the completion. So, I stuck to those areas.
    Write down below, comment:
What are the top three things you love about your job?
Top three things you hate about your job?
And, it’s your job to get rid of those 3 things as soon as possible!

Carl-Gould-#70secondCEO-The Power and The Risk and The Danger of Your Business

Carl-Gould-#70secondCEO-The Power and The Risk and The Danger of Your Business

Hi everybody, Carl Gould here with your #70secondCEO - just a minute investment for a lifetime of results.  Today's topic is - Your Business as a Table.
Imagine your business was a table.  How sturdy are those legs?  Let's imagine there are four legs under your tables and its:
    Strategies
    Business development
    Operations
    Finance
Okay, those are your four. Imagine I walked up to your table and I pulled one of the legs out. What would happen to your table? Would it fall over right away or would it be a little wobbly but no one would notice?  That's right. I bet you one or more of the legs on your table are a little bit wobbly, a little bit unstable.
Now, imagine I took that leg out and then I put pressure right on the table, I push down on that table when it was missing the leg.  What would happen then? The entire table falls. That's right. One leg is unsturdy but if outside pressure is imposed on your business, the entire business can go down. That is the power and the risk and the danger of your business having a wobbly leg. So, which of the legs of your business are a little bit wobbly and what's one ACTION you're going to take right away to start shoring that up? Because any outside pressure from:
    The economy
    From your competition
A Google change in the algorithm - you name it - will adversely affect your business, and we can't allow that to happen.
So, like, follow, subscribe to this podcast and leave a comment about this post. Which leg of the table is weak and what are you going to do to shore it up right away? Let's share those best practices. I'm Carl Gould, and this is your #70secondCEO.
