Episode 23: Meat Eater’s Patrick Durkin - Marathons, Media and CWD

Episode 23: Meat Eater’s Patrick Durkin - Marathons, Media and CWD

Welcome to the Chase Outdoors: The Podcast REBOOT!  We are happy to return to the podcast stage after taking a break to handle the task of growing our company.  With our fourth store expansion and new ecommerce website (chase-outdoors.com) now in the rearview, we are thrilled to bring you new episodes with a more pointed direction.  The goal of this podcast is to bring thought-provoking content and stories surrounding our passion of the outdoors.  We are focused on bringing guests whom names you already know and some of the most dynamic people you've never met.  For our local listeners you will be amazed to learn many of these people are a part of our community.
We kick things off with the dynamic Patrick Durkin. Patrick (Eau Claire, Wisconsin), is an award-winning outdoor writer, freelance newspaper columnist, and general outdoors reporter.  As the Wildlife-Research Contributing Writer for MeatEater, Patrick Durkin draws on his extensive contacts at universities and wildlife agencies nationwide to report on biological and sociological research into hunting, hunters and wildlife. Through one-on-one interviews and by reading scientific literature, he provides the latest insights into wildlife behavior and biology.  In addition to his career Patrick enjoys running having just competed in the LA Marathon, hunting and fishing from his custom wood row troller.
Today Patrick joins me in the cave to discuss three things of which he offers great insight: the ever controversial, misunderstood and threatening topic of Chronic Wasting Disease, Patrick's methods for staying "hunt ready" through running and the future of hunting as we combat the anti-hunting cultural war.
