Mike Krzyzewski - West Point, Women's Wisdom, and Being Worthy of Winning

SEASON FINALE SPECIAL! This week, Lisa welcomes Mike Krzyzewski to the Enlightened community. "Coach K," as he is known in the sports world, sits down for the seasons one finale of Enlightened to talk about four decades of making history as the head of Duke men's basketball, what it was like coaching the USA men's national team to three consecutive gold medals, and how he applies sports experiences to real world challenges. He tells us why he is the ultimate Girl Dad, shares the importance of adhering to women's wisdom, and explains an inherited philosophy he refers to as 'getting on the right bus.' And in a series of anecdotes, coach offers up his own words of wisdom around why there's leadership in losing, how his military background has informed his ability to lead and teach, and what he truly means when he makes the ultimate ask of his players — to 'be worthy of winning.'

Stephen Satterfield - Nopa and Netflix: Recipes for Reclaiming Culture and Identity

Stephen Satterfield - Nopa and Netflix: Recipes for Reclaiming Culture and Identity

Food media entrepreneur, Stephen Satterfield, joins the show this week to serve up a small batch sermon on the power of conviction and cuisine. The founder of Whetstone and host of Netflix's High on the Hog: How African American Cuisine Transformed America talks champagne, terroir, and wine as a means of socioeconomic development. We examine how and why he's come full circle on the distinctions that enable food to deepen human connection — and we explore the history of agricultural acumen and its role in systemic inequality. This is a mouthwatering and mind-blowing conversation! It's also a soul-stirring dive into the future of food — and a recipe for combining epicurean taste and empathy for a more compassionate world.

The Enlightened Podcast Returns August 24th

Hello, hello, hello! This is Lisa Borders and I just wanted to pop by to let you know we are taking a brief hiatus this week and we'll be back on August 24th with food writer and entrepreneur, Stephen Satterfield. Stephen is the host of this year's hit Netflix docuseries, High on the Hog: How African American Cuisine Transformed America. If you're looking for a way to fill that normal Enlightened hour with us, I strongly recommend you check out his show. Warning, y'all -- don't watch it on an empty stomach because while it's an extraordinary culinary history lesson, it will leave you longing for the cuisine. Also, I want to mention that our Enlightened season one finale will be coming up in September. I hope you'll join us for a truly special episode then, too. But in the meantime, I just want to say -- you've all been incredible and I'm humbled by the tremendous love for the pod. Thank you for listening, for leaving your comments and feedback, and for being a big part of how we build this Enlightened community.

Golden Domers and moguls in the making, Ayden Syal and Brandon Wimbush, join me on this week's episode to share their Notre Dame origin stories and break down the novelty of the name, image, and likeness revolution in collegiate athletics. They also give me a glimpse into MOGL, their innovative startup created to help NCAA athletes navigate the complicated world of monetization, philanthropy, and personal brand building. We discuss the significance of the newly signed legislation — and we hear why these two believe what's next may be the most important and athlete-centric era the world has ever seen. With stories about everything from finance to football, fashion to friendship, and market shares to mentorship, this millennial duo enlightens us about how their time in the college football capital of the world has led to a high stakes, holistic approach to emboldening players, building communities, and shifting the power dynamic in sports.
