Reason I studied Literature at Patrick Henry College



When people discover I majored in Literature at Patrick Henry College, there’s usually a pause and then I’m often asked “Why?”



“Why not?”



“Come on. Seriously. You studied books, right?”



“Well, I read books, but I studied humanity and life and beauty and awe.”



Ironically, it’s difficult for me to communicate­—in its wholeness—the profound impact and experience studying literature at Patrick Henry College had on me. Perhaps because it was more than simply an intellectual broadening of my mind as it shaped my view of story and understanding of life.



So why did I study Literature at Patrick Henry College?



It’s the study of humanity



With all honesty, I believe that layered on the Classical Liberal Arts core at Patrick Henry College, the Literature major opens your soul in ways a simple English degree really just can’t come close to. As humans we operate within our—usually sub consciously constructed—worlds shaped by our personal histories, experiences, and beliefs.

People usually think that what makes Patrick Henry College so remarkable. The answer is easy: it’s the people, our students and alumni become. At Patrick Henry College the three critical elements: character, communication skills, and critical thinking are necessary for long-term success. These vital qualities not only make all the difference in lives and careers but also these qualities are the demanded by the nation in its leaders. Thus, Patrick Henry College exists to produce a generation of leaders for Christ to reclaim the nation for liberty.

Patrick Henry College is committed to honor students who are excelled in forensics competitions, classical education, leadership, service, or music. A student has to apply for Merit Scholarship according to his eligibility. Forensics Scholarship with annual award of $500 to $10,000, Strategic Intelligence Scholarship with annual award of $500 to $5,000, Music Scholarship with $500 to $3,000 per year etc. is included in Merit Scholarships.

Patrick Henry College has its mission to prepare brilliant Christian leaders to lead   the nation in future. To achieve this mission, Patrick Henry College makes   use of broad core curriculum based on Bible. This classical broad core   curriculum consists of theology, history, literature, philosophy and science   all taken from Bible.

Patrick Henry College was founded in 2000 with a vision to restore America by educating the best and brightest Christian students to take their place as future leaders of the nation and its culture. Its Mission is to prepare Christian men and women who will lead our nation and shape our culture with timeless biblical values and fidelity to the spirit of the American Founding.

The Patrick Henry College Alumni Association is a growing group of professionals, parents, and academics who attended Patrick Henry College. The Alumni Board, consisting of 15 individuals who serve two-year terms on a staggered basis, exists to serve the membership of the Association and to maintain and strengthen our bond as we continue to seek to make a difference in this world.
