In this episode, I introduce the show as In the Mix with Mixel - the name of the show before I changed it to She Creates. I interview Liz Alcazar, a baker and cake artist based in Santa Ana, CA. Liz talks to us about how she balances her day job as an American Sign Language interpreter at a community college and her cake and baking business known as Peace and Cakes. She walks us through her creative process, from the idea, to the sketch, to the actual baking. We also talk about important topics to her that have made appearances in her cakes, such as women empowerment, and racial equality.

Pilot Season: Ep. 2: Author & Director, Alyssa N. Griego

In this episode, I introduce the show as In the Mix with Mixel - the name of the show before I changed it to She Creates. I interviewed Alyssa N. Griego, a queer Chicanx author and director. We were the first interview she did after publishing her poetry book,  Sad Girl Strong Woman. Alyssa shares with us how she turned a heartbreak into a work of art by walking us through her creative process.

We talk through many topics that appear in the book such as love, generational trauma, womanhood, and much more. She even reads us one of the poems at the end of the interview.

Pilot Season: Ep. 1: DJs, Helikonia & Funky Caramelo

Pilot Season: Ep. 1: DJs, Helikonia & Funky Caramelo

In this episode, I introduce the show as In the Mix with Mixel - the name of the show before I changed it to She Creates. This was the very first episode I recorded and I interviewed LA based, DJ Helikonia and DJ Funky Caramelo.

They both share stories about their upbringings and how those have shaped who they are becoming today. Helikonia talks to us about how she balances her corporate job in change management while running Intersessions in LA - an organization that sets up workshop series with artist run seminars aimed to address the significant gender and sexuality based imbalance within the music industry. They offer DJ and sound focused workshops for women, and those within the LGBTQ+ spectrum. Funky Caramelo talks to us about how she chose to take a leap and search for a full-time opportunity in the music industry after living a full life as a social justice advocate within immigrant rights. She shares how she feels that she too, has the right to pursue her dream. Both women are full of life, love, optimism, and chingona determination.
