Convoy episodes
Dear Al & James,
Thank you for the continued fascinating episodes you manage to churn out with alacrity. Listening to the recent convoy pods i purchased the book Convoy Crisis by Sir Peter Gretton in chapter 12 he refers to a plane from 206 squadron on the 24th of April attacking a submarine. My step mother’s father Richard Cecil Patrick who finished the war as Squadron Commander having served with 206 Squadron always had these fabulous and inspiring pictures he took from his plane attaching a U-boat at our home in the downstairs loo. So after reading the book I asked her to check his log book and there on the 24th April 1943 he records attacking a U-boat so she was delighted to hear about the podcast the book and the very real possibility that the plane mentioned was him. He died in 2005 before I was connecting with the Second World War history so sadly never had the chance to ask what his experience was. He won 2 DFC’s and flew for the entire war so I can only imagine what an amazing man he was. Thank you for these wonderful podcasts there really are wonderful. Chris Harrison.
