Today, we will be discussing the importance of resilience in times of trouble and crisis with Author, RN, Speaker and HIV/AIDS Advocate, Rachel Karrington. In the 1980’s at the height of the HIV/AIDS Epidemic in the United States, Rachel’s world was rocked at the young age of 21 when she learned of her husband's HIV positive diagnosis. Not knowing what would become of herself and 2 children, she quickly realized she only had 2 options: either let life disappointments and circumstances determine the direction of her life or persevere and push through pain, confusion, and stigma and discrimination that came with her husband’s HIV diagnosis. She chose the latter.
