The New Dress is a short story by Virginia Woolf about an overly self-conscious Mabel Waring who was attending a party hosted by Clarissa Dalloway. 

'The Black Cat' is a short story by Edgar Allan Poe. It tells the story of a man who is haunted by guilt by the crime he has done, and is constantly tortured by it through the appearance of his black cat.
