"For never was a story of more woe, than this of Juliet and her Romeo."
Romeo and Juliet is one of the best-known plays of English playwright and poet William Shakespeare. The play is a tragedy that tells the tale of a young couple who fall in love before they realize that their families are bitter enemies. The houses of Montague and Capulet are shaken to their foundations by the tumultuous and forbidden love affair of Romeo and Juliet.
Shakespeare wrote the play early in his career and it was one of his most popular. Although the story was well-known to audiences at the time, the author deftly blends comic and tragic moments to heighten the tension throughout the story. His powerful use of language and mastery of drama combine to great effect in this timeless love story.
