What We Do Matters - Joe Baker - King and His Kingdom

What We Do Matters - Joe Baker - King and His Kingdom

One day, we will stand before Jesus and give an account for our lives.

That should motivate us and change how we live today.

Jesus has given us HIS KINGDOM to live in today and He’s coming back at a time we won’t expect and when He does, He’s coming as the King and He is gonna ask us: “What did you do with the life that I gave you?”

Through a series of parables, Jesus encourages us to live awake, to live prepared, and to live like He’s coming back.

In this message, Pastor Joe Baker gives a powerful message teaching on the Parable of the Talents.

    The Parable of the Talents

14 “For it will be like a man going on a journey, who called his servants and entrusted to them his property. 15 To one he gave five talents, to another two, to another one, to each according to his ability. Then he went away. 16 He who had received the five talents went at once and traded with them, and he made five talents more. 17 So also he who had the two talents made two talents more. 18 But he who had received the one talent went and dug in the ground and hid his master's money. 19 Now after a long time the master of those servants came and settled accounts with them. 20 And he who had received the five talents came forward, bringing five talents more, saying, ‘Master, you delivered to me five talents; here, I have made five talents more.’ 21 His master said to him, ‘Well done, good and faithful servant. You have been faithful over a little; I will set you over much. Enter into the joy of your master.’ 22 And he also who had the two talents came forward, saying, ‘Master, you delivered to me two talents; here, I have made two talents more.’ 23 His master said to him, ‘Well done, good and faithful servant. You have been faithful over a little; I will set you over much. Enter into the joy of your master.’ 24 He also who had received the one talent came forward, saying, ‘Master, I knew you to be a hard man, reaping where you did not sow, and gathering where you scattered no seed, 25 so I was afraid, and I went and hid your talent in the ground. Here, you have what is yours.’ 26 But his master answered him, ‘You wicked and slothful servant! You knew that I reap where I have not sown and gather where I scattered no seed? 27 Then you ought to have invested my money with the bankers, and at my coming I should have received what was my own with interest. 28 So take the talent from him and give it to him who has the ten talents. 29 For to everyone who has will more be given, and he will have an abundance. But from the one who has not, even what he has will be taken away. 30 And cast the worthless servant into the outer darkness. In that place there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.’

    Matthew 25:14-30

The Prodigal Son - Caden Dulmage - King and His Kingdom

The Prodigal Son - Caden Dulmage - King and His Kingdom

In this parable the orphan finds their adoption.
In this parable the proud are humbled.
In this parable the wayward find their way home.
In this parable the refugee finds shelter
In this parable the hurting find healing
In this parable the sinner finds their savior.
This is the parable of the prodigal son.

11 And he said, “There was a man who had two sons. 12 And the younger of them said to his father, ‘Father, give me the share of property that is coming to me.’ And he divided his property between them. 13 Not many days later, the younger son gathered all he had and took a journey into a far country, and there he squandered his property in reckless living. 14 And when he had spent everything, a severe famine arose in that country, and he began to be in need. 15 So he went and hired himself out to one of the citizens of that country, who sent him into his fields to feed pigs. 16 And he was longing to be fed with the pods that the pigs ate, and no one gave him anything.

17 “But when he came to himself, he said, ‘How many of my father's hired servants have more than enough bread, but I perish here with hunger! 18 I will arise and go to my father, and I will say to him, “Father, I have sinned against heaven and before you. 19 I am no longer worthy to be called your son. Treat me as one of your hired servants.”’ 20 And he arose and came to his father. But while he was still a long way off, his father saw him and felt compassion, and ran and embraced him and kissed him. 21 And the son said to him, ‘Father, I have sinned against heaven and before you. I am no longer worthy to be called your son.’ 22 But the father said to his servants,[d] ‘Bring quickly the best robe, and put it on him, and put a ring on his hand, and shoes on his feet. 23 And bring the fattened calf and kill it, and let us eat and celebrate. 24 For this my son was dead, and is alive again; he was lost, and is found.’ And they began to celebrate.

25 “Now his older son was in the field, and as he came and drew near to the house, he heard music and dancing. 26 And he called one of the servants and asked what these things meant. 27 And he said to him, ‘Your brother has come, and your father has killed the fattened calf, because he has received him back safe and sound.’ 28 But he was angry and refused to go in. His father came out and entreated him, 29 but he answered his father, ‘Look, these many years I have served you, and I never disobeyed your command, yet you never gave me a young goat, that I might celebrate with my friends. 30 But when this son of yours came, who has devoured your property with prostitutes, you killed the fattened calf for him!’ 31 And he said to him, ‘Son, you are always with me, and all that is mine is yours. 32 It was fitting to celebrate and be glad, for this your brother was dead, and is alive; he was lost, and is found.’”
    Luke 15:11-32

The King’s Invitation & The Excuses We Make - Joe Baker - King and His Kingdom

The King’s Invitation & The Excuses We Make - Joe Baker - King and His Kingdom

When Jesus walked this earth, more than he talked about money or peace or faith or politics, He talked about The Kingdom.

The Kingdom of God, or the Kingdom of Heaven, or simply, the Kingdom. And when talking about the Kingdom, we have to be reminded that it’s simple enough for a child to understand and enter in, but also complex enough for you to never feel like you’ve got it all figured out.

Jesus, when speaking about the Kingdom, didn’t give us definitions for what the Kingdom of God is. Instead, he gave illustrations. He told stories -- parables.

Jesus communicated through stories to connect with the hearts of His audience and deposit truth into their souls.

Parables are simply practical stories or earthly stories with a heavenly meaning.

Today, we’re diving into a story Jesus told that shakes us up and calls us out. It's about a banquet, but not just any banquet—it's a royal feast hosted by the King Himself. And guess what? You’re invited to dine with the King.

But there’s a twist with this story, because it’s in this story that Jesus exposes the excuses that we make that lead to us rejecting His invitation.

The Parable Of The Good Samaritan - Joey McLaughlin - The King and His Kingdom

The Parable Of The Good Samaritan - Joey McLaughlin - The King and His Kingdom

The most famous parable is the Good Samaritan.

Can you just consider how there is no good reason that this small story, just seven verses told by some irrelevant Jewish rabbi, would show up in secular institutions and on political platforms?

We name hospitals after this story. People, some of the most famous painters in the world, would want to paint this story that this little rabbi told in the middle of nowhere.

It speaks to something within us that is transcendent, something that is intrinsic... It speaks to something in us as humanity that says this is the way that things should be.

The Treasure of The Kingdom - Joey McLaughlin - The King and His Kingdom

The Treasure of The Kingdom - Joey McLaughlin - The King and His Kingdom

The glory, the worth, the value, the shine, the glimmer, the treasure of the Kingdom is not seen

by everyone. It’s covered, it’s buried, people are blind to it, they walk right past it never

realizing what they are trampling upon. It’s hidden to them.

This is why people can see Jesus without seeing Jesus.

Why people can hear the gospel, without hearing the gospel.

Why prayer gets discounted, why consistent church attendance is way under valued.

They see dirt, they don’t see the divine. To them the Kingdom looks like trash—they don’t

    realize it’s treasure.

Tune in to this powerful message from Pastor Joey about the treasure of the Kingdom of God.
