Motherhood changes us. As the generation who were told we could do anything and be anything we want to be, accepting the changes that come with motherhood can be very difficult.
This podcast is a collection of stories of matrescence, motherhood, womanhood and change, told by our Mama Rising coaches and mothers around the globe. Through our stories and community, we hope that the wisdom of the rite of passage of matrescence spreads far and wide, and that we can begin to change the way we see, value and support ALL mothers everywhere. Because we really need it.

#259 | REDEFINING INTIMACY IN PARENTHOOD | WITH DANIELA STEVENS

#259 | REDEFINING INTIMACY IN PARENTHOOD | WITH DANIELA STEVENS

We've spoken with a number of relationship and sex experts over the years on this podcast - and there's a reason for that.
Babies can change so much. For both partners.
How do we connect after so much has changed? How do we even know what we want anymore when our bodies feel so different and the time and space we had for our partner has evaporated?
The truth is, intimacy and sexual connection can - and often does - take a back seat for the early years.
But when you finally do have the space, time and energy to start exploring this important part of yourself again - where do you start?
That's what this interview with Daniela Stevens is all about.
Daniela Stevens (she/they) is a queer bi+ trauma- and attachment theory-informed certified Sex and Intimacy Coach for couples and individuals of all bodies and all expressions. Named one of the ten best Sex & Intimacy Coaches of 2023, she supports people to experience deep sexual connection and intimacy with themselves and their partner(s) by co-creating a Sex Practice to ripen into the best sex of their lives.
By naming and addressing the intersections of personal experience with multiple systems of oppression, she supports them to clarify, connect, communicate, heal, and co-create the sex they want and the intimacy they desire. For her, nothing is more important than connection.
And as she shares with Amy in this intimate and inspiring interview, that is something we can all start exploring for ourselves right now too.

#258 | HEALING OUR FAMILY STORIES THROUGH MOTHERHOOD | WITH NGOMBO CHANSA

#258 | HEALING OUR FAMILY STORIES THROUGH MOTHERHOOD | WITH NGOMBO CHANSA

The beautiful - and confronting - thing about matrescence is it often leads us deep into our own familial story, and how we were mothered.
Sometimes, without even knowing it, it can be the portal into looking at our mothers, and our mothers' mother's experience of being a woman and a mother...
which, without the proper support and understanding, can feel very overwhelming.
But what if we were to see this has a chance to heal our red thread?
What if the gift of matrescence included the gift of generational understanding?
This is what Ngombo Chansa speaks about in this week's podcast.
Ngombo is a mother of two and a professionally trained Postpartum Doula and Zambia's first Mama Rising Coach and facilitator. And in this divine interview - which she recorded back in London as she supported her sister's birth of her first child - she reflects on the process of healing her own family story, and taking that wisdom and commitment back to Zambia to support others.

Ngombo provides guidance and support for Mothers as they navigate the complexities of Motherhood. Her passion and devotion for this work stems from witnessing the profound transformative effect that occurs in a woman’s life when she connects with her inherent strength and chooses to experience Motherhood in a way that resonates with who she truly is.
As a mother of two and a professionally trained Postpartum Doula and Zambia's first Mama Rising Coach and facilitator, she brings a unique blend of personal and professional experience to her practice.
Her journey into this work was sparked by her own personal struggle with postnatal depletion, postpartum depression and anxiety following the birth of her youngest child six years ago. She has experienced first hand how the right tools, understanding and care can transform Motherhood from a daunting and overwhelming experience into an expansive evolutionary journey filled with joy.
To Ngombo, mothering in alignment with her values means choosing to romanticize her life, treating herself with kindness and sitting in the driving seat of her existence. Having an adventurous life is really important to her which is why two years ago, she heeded the call of her intuition and returned to her roots in Zambia after living as a daughter of the diaspora in England for 30 out of her 36 years. She has since settled in the lively capital city of Lusaka with her husband and 2 children, where as a family they are thriving in an environment that feels like home.

#257 | THE SPIRITUAL ASSIGNMENT OF MATRESCENCE | WITH KELLY VAN ZANDT

#257 | THE SPIRITUAL ASSIGNMENT OF MATRESCENCE | WITH KELLY VAN ZANDT

What if we were to view the experience of Matrescence as a spiritual assignment?
How would we feel if we knew that all we are going through is actually here to help us grow?
Would that make this wild ride any different?
Over the years, I have interviewed many different authors and experts about matrescence and motherhood - but rarely have I been so inspired to view this experience as a deeply spiritual one as when I spoke with Kelly Van Zandt.
Kelly is the author behind "Powerful Postpartum: Unveiling the Spiritual Depths of Motherhood", bringing together her own spiritual studies with training in Vedic Counselling and postpartum studies. She is also a graduate candidate in Marriage and Family Therapy, which allows her to explore the tender topic of family dynamics and emotional well-being in a beautiful approachable way.
And in her own graceful way, somehow inspired me to consider this gift of motherhood in a new way.
I know it will do the same for you.
Kelly will be releasing her next book, "Your Baby Your Guru," in late 2024, in which she will uncover the sacred connections between mothers and their little ones, and exactly what they are here to teach us.

#255 | A NEW APPROACH TO STRENGTH AND SUCCESS FOR WORKING MOTHERS | WITH SARA PANTRY

#255 | A NEW APPROACH TO STRENGTH AND SUCCESS FOR WORKING MOTHERS | WITH SARA PANTRY

Matrescence and the experience of becoming a mother changes us in the most profound ways - and often in the way we most need.
Take our guest Sara Pantry's story as an example:
A hugely successful woman by anyone's measure, having turned her ambition into action over and over again, leading to her position at LinkedIn as Senior Workplace Leader, specialising in creating exceptional employee experiences and fostering engaging workplaces. Including ensuring women are supported after returning from maternity leave.
But two years ago, Sara welcomed her two year old son into this world - and so began the biggest inner shift she has ever faced.
What she used to see as her strengths and very foundation of success was shaken up. And who she wanted to be - and what she wanted to do - changed for ever.
Sara shares her insights into redefining strength and success, and the work she is now doing within LinkedIn, and as the driving force behind She Thrives—a sanctuary for modern working mothers—and From Me To We, a movement dedicated to uplifting and acknowledging working mothers. Sara’s created a supportive space where we can all share our stories, draw inspiration from role models, and offer wisdom through letters to our pre-mama selves.

And if you want to join Sara and her growing community, and share your journey, simply email sara@shethrives.net to express your interest, and you'll receive all the details and next steps to participate.

#254 | LOVING YOURSELF THROUGH THE SPIKY UGLY BITS OF MOTHERHOOD |WITH LEONIE DAWSON

#254 | LOVING YOURSELF THROUGH THE SPIKY UGLY BITS OF MOTHERHOOD |WITH LEONIE DAWSON

    Welcome back, Mamas.
"I love my children deeply and ferociously. I would choose them again. I was born to be their mother. And still, it is hard. And fraught with the pains of being human, of living in a world with physical and energetic limitations."
This was the start of the social media post by the phenomenal Leonie Dawson that spurred this interview... and sparked one of the most honest and moving conversations about motherhood, forgiveness, and acceptance.
As an entrepreneur, Leonie has generated $14 million in revenue - working just 10 hours a week. Her books have sold around the globe, and she is beacon of honesty in a world that often tries to sell us a perfect picture of success.
But Leonie is also a mama who deeply struggled with the early years of motherhood, and through her own deep healing of her family line, and the diagnosis of both Auticism and ADHD, has finally been able to accept herself as a mother - in all the spiky ugly bits.
