Everybody has a little nub of resistance that rebels against what Jesus wants us to do, even though we know that He is right. The remnant of our sinful nature that we haven’t let God wipe out. Good thing for us, though, God doesn’t give up on us. He just keeps prodding us to let Him rule more of our hearts, which is what the church in Philadelphia did. Pastor Daniel will talk about the things that made that church the one every church wants to be like.

Parents, as they raise their kids, can usually get an idea of what their kids are capable of academically. And as the kids progress through school they encourage them without comparing them to each other. If they have a kid that gets A’s and B’s easily, they don’t put up with C-quality work. Pastor Daniel will teach about a church that had the veneer of A-level but was doing C-level at best. God was calling them out on it and you’ll hear what He had to say.

People get so hung up on appearing to be the ‘right’ or ‘cool’ person to others. Wear the right clothes, be seen at the right places, and hang out with the right people. But that’s not how God judges your value, as Pastor Daniel will teach today. The church in Sardis thought they had it going on because they appeared to society to be the ‘perfect’ church. But they found out that God had a far different view of them, and it wasn’t flattering.

Some companies spend billions of dollars yearly to convince you that what they’re selling is just what you need. Sometimes you may need what they’re selling; often, you don’t need it and don’t find that out until it’s too late. In many of our lives, we spend time convincing people to believe our image of ourselves. Pastor Daniel will teach about a church whose image of themselves didn’t match with what Jesus saw in them.

People are going to hear this and ask, “Where’s ‘gentle Jesus, meek and mild’”? This seems so harsh, to threaten to kill a group of His own followers. People sometimes forget that the same Jesus Who loved the children also made a whip and beat grown men until they ran out of the temple. Pastor Daniel is going to talk about what made Jesus issue this threat. He will let you know how you can keep from making the same mistakes the church at Thyatira did.

When we’re new Christians we’re very excited about our salvation because we’re very aware of what we’ve been saved from. We try to serve and we’re at every church function because we want to soak it all up. As time goes on, it’s easy to become casual about what God has done and continues to do in our lives. Pastor Daniel is going to be teaching about a church that had become kind of casual in their relationship with God.
