    Episode #230 Have Fun!

    Episode #230 Have Fun!

In today's start small BELIEVE BIG Podcast episode, Billie talks about spiritual motivation.
Each day my husband leaves for work, I remind him to have fun. He plays a game for a living.
Well, actually, he doesn't even play; he watches a game as a job.
Throughout our 30-plus years in professional baseball, we've had some good and bad experiences, on and off the field, with players, coaches, and their families.
When we committed to seeing baseball as our mission field, our feelings had to be put aside.
We work in baseball to please God, not others. We fulfill His purpose, not our own. In this we have fun!

    Episode #229 Spiritual Jet-Lag

    Episode #229 Spiritual Jet-Lag

Sometimes when I allow my mind to take over I feel a sense of disconnect between me and the Lord. Little by little I build walls. A barrier standing in the way of my connection to Jesus.
Worry, fear, comparison, and other toxic emotional barriers build up unsettling experiences during our lifetime. When we chase our rabbit trail of concerns, worry becomes our crutch rather than trust.
This causes what I call Spiritual Jet lag.

    Episode #228 Demolish The Lies

    Episode #228 Demolish The Lies

When I look back at many opportunities I have not taken, the root has been because I make up a story in my head that I’m not good enough. Not experienced enough. I can’t offer anything valuable.
I’m not good enough is a tale I tell myself, a lie I often believe.
We have a choice. We can recognize the danger and turn away or we can allow unhealthy thoughts to take us captive.
We capture these thoughts, admit them to the Lord, and ask him to redirect our thinking.
Listen to today's episode to learn how to demolish the lies.
Thank you for joining me today on the start small BELIEVE BIG Podcast.

Episode #227 Peace In His Passing

Episode #227 Peace In His Passing

In today's episode of start small BELIEVE BIG Podcast, Billie talks about her childhood friend Joe. He died at 39 of cancer. Their last conversation gave Billie great peace in his passing.

Have you been struggling with being tired? Tired of what’s going on around you. Tired of waiting. Tired of negativity. Tired of being tired.

Those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. Not because we muster it up but because

The Lord is the everlasting God,
the Creator of the ends of the earth.
He will not grow tired or weary,
and his understanding no one can fathom.
He gives strength to the weary
and increases the power of the weak.

When we are convinced of who God is, the everlasting creator who never grows tired or weary, and His understanding we cannot fathom. In His promises, we have hope and peace—strength to the weary and power for the weak.

    Episode #226 Moonlight School

    Episode #226 Moonlight School

Suzanne is an award-winning, bestselling author of more than 30 books, including On a Summer Tide and On a Coastal Breeze, as well as the Nantucket Legacy, Amish Beginnings, The Bishop’s Family, The Deacon’s Family, and The Inn at Eagle Hill series, among other novels.
She is also the author of several nonfiction books about the Amish, including Amish Peace and Amish Proverbs. She lives in California.
Her recent novel, "The Moonlight School,” is inspired by true events of the Moonlight School in Rowan County, Kentucky, during the early 1900s.

Born and raised in the Kentucky hills, Cora Wilson Stewart, the superintendent of education, understood the plague of illiteracy and came up with a plan to open the schoolhouses to adults on moonlit nights.
This movement almost completely eliminated adult literacy in this county and was the catalyst for shocking the nation into taking adult literacy seriously. Even today, the US celebrates National Literacy week.

Over a hundred years later, literacy is still a major problem. The National Center for Educational Statistics (NCES) states that 21% of Americans (about 42 million people) still fall in the illiterate or functionally illiterate category. Often, a parent’s struggle with literacy is passed down to their children.

Suzanne Woods Fisher has researched this topic and has compared the statistics of literary, both during the 1900s and today, and her findings are truly eye-opening.
