"Nigeria's History in Our Time" with Ojo, Aderemi Ojo Aderemi

In this episode, the history of the Fulani is explored. It traces the story of the nomadic peoples from their place of origin to Nigeria. And these nomadic peoples had splintered into the marauding hordes and the aristocratic groups seen across West Africa, but particularly Nigeria. How did the shy cattle herders of Nigeria become the notorious horde it has become today? Experts have said the diminishing natural resources made scarce by changes in the environment is responsible. Others have alluded to the desire for domination and jihadist pursuit of the 18th and 19th centuries might well still be alive with us in the 21st century.

With more than 40, 000 dead, Boko Haram insurgency which has ravaged the northeast corner of Nigeria. In this episode, Bornu's history is explored. A ravaged region might as well have been home to a wealthy dynasty and an influencial empire that lasted longer than any other empire in world history.

In trying to understand the socio-political dichotomies of Nigeria's North and South, the political history and cultural evolution of the country must be studied from the earliest times. In this episode, I am tracing the history of the north side of the country from antiquity. It lays a foundation for further understanding of the terrain. This has been done with utmost simplicity. The length has been shortened to prevent the harrowing complications. A few historical sites were mentioned for the benefit of curious tourists, journalists and ordinary people who might want to see the relics associated with the history of the Hausa people.
