Unfortunately, Elizabeth's nephew and heir, Peter III, despised his aunt and country, and dreamed of a future where Russia would belong to his homeland, Germany. A new empress would be needed to prevent Peter from destroying Russia . . . and she would go down in history as one of Russia's greatest leaders.
