Episode 11 | Yachts & Things, The Discovery of Truman Capote’s Lost Work The Swans Pod
-
- TV & Film
In this episode, we are discussing Truman Capote's previously lost and unpublished short story "Yachts and Things" that was discovered by Vanity Fair contributing editors Sam Kasher and Nancy Schoenberger. Written at the height of his career and social life, this short, thinly-veiled work described the story of two friends who take an idyllic three-week cruise in the Mediterranean aboard a wealthy friend's chartered yacht.
While Yachts and Things wasn't found with the other chapters of the unfinished novel Answered Prayers, and was never published as a stand alone story in during Capote’s lifetime, Nancy chats with me about what she believes to be the intention of the piece, its timeline, how it differed from Capote’s later works, and why it’s significant.
Host: Jill Laurence
Guest: Nancy Schoenberger
Production: Made in the Hamptons Media
