It’s tough being a drama student and not being able to be on stage and do what you love. After months of procrastination, cursing the pandemic and coming to terms with the new normal. Let’s do whatever we love. We are a group of drama students, drama lovers and everything in between who would be presenting stories to you unless we run off to a new found obsession and drop this idea.

Suggestions, Feedback, Comments, Complaints can be conveyed to anurag.nair2014@gmail.com. I would be happy to read it .

Recover Better - Stand up for Human Rights

On the occasion of International Human Rights Day, we present before you an audio drama based on this years theme for the Human Rights Day - “ Recover Better - Stand up for Human Rights”. There are 3 short scenes depicted in this drama. First one is a fictional depiction of an incident with the Migrants, second one is set in a household where a seemingly innocent question by a child sets the stage up for an important question - should housewife be paid for their work at home. Third story is about the hypocritical society which meets out ill-treatment to the doctor who is at the frontline against this pandemic. A big thanks to my collaborators and co actors from JDCOEM - Kunal, Mahima, Nomaan, Shailesh, Pranjali, Prafull & Prajwal. Sound Credits - Freesound.org, BBC Sounds Collection & YouTube Audio Library. Let’s recover better and stand up for everyone’s rights. All incidences in the play do not bear resemblance to any person living or dead and is a work of fiction.

    The Patriot by Nissim Ezekiel

    The Patriot by Nissim Ezekiel

I am standing for peace and non-violence.
    Why world is fighting fighting
    Why all people of world
    Are not following Mahatma Gandhi,
    I am simply not understanding.
Ancient Indian Wisdom is 100% correct,
I should say even 200% correct,
But modern generation is neglecting –
Too much going for fashion and foreign thing.
    Other day I’m reading newspaper
(Every day I’m reading Times of India
    To improve my English Language)
    How one goonda fellow
    Threw stone at Indirabehn.
Must be student unrest fellow, I am thinking.
Friends, Romans, Countrymen, I am saying (to myself)
    Lend me the ears.
    Everything is coming –
    Regeneration, Remuneration, Contraception.
    Be patiently, brothers and sisters.
    You want one glass lassi?
    Very good for digestion.
    With little salt, lovely drink,
    Better than wine;
Not that I am ever tasting the wine.
I’m the total teetotaller, completely total,
    But I say
Wine is for the drunkards only.
What you think of prospects of world peace?
    Pakistan behaving like this,
    China behaving like that,
It is making me really sad, I am telling you.
    Really, most harassing me.
    All men are brothers, no?
    In India also
    Gujaratis, Maharashtrians, Hindiwallahs
    All brothers –
Though some are having funny habits.
    Still, you tolerate me,
    I tolerate you,
One day Ram Rajya is surely coming.
    You are going?
    But you will visit again
    Any time, any day,
I am not believing in ceremony
Always I am enjoying your company

I like this poem for its simplicity and the ease of recording it. Till the time I create my next play I present this lovely poem to you all. If you want to check out more details about this poem click on this link -

Summary - A woman's car breaks down in the middle of nowhere. She hitches a ride on a bus on its way to a mental institute. Before she knows what's happening, she has been admitted as a patient. Her husband, referring to their trouble-ridden history, believes she has run off with another man. When she finally finds an opportunity to call him, he curses her and hangs up. She is forced to sleep with a guard to pass along the full message to her husband. When he arrives, he takes the doctor's account to heart and leaves the woman at the hospital. If Only she was helped by the passing cars, things could have been different.

Note - I extend my heartfelt gratitude to all the people associated in this creation and to the great master - Gabriel García Márquez for creating such a tragic tale.
