Get your motor running, Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga
Film buff, critic and journalist Stephen Russell joined Rach & Dean to tell them about the new film ‘Furiosa : A Mad Max Saga’.
Directed by George Miller and starring Anya-Taylor Joy, this ‘gear head Joan of Arc’ tells the story of young Furiosa who is snatched from the Green Place of Many Mothers and falls into the hands of a great biker horde led by the warlord Dementus. Sweeping through the Wasteland, they come across the Citadel, presided over by the Immortan Joe. As the two tyrants fight for dominance, Furiosa soon finds herself in a nonstop battle to make her way home.

Rainbow Community Angel Volunteer Louise
It’s National Volunteer Week, where we take the time to celebrate people who create space in their lives to do good and work for the betterment of more than themselves, focusing on how they can serve their communities.
We’ve highlighted people who have volunteered for organisations, and now we are going to shift gears to something different, the Rainbow Community Angels. Starting a year ago this grass roots organisation has brought the community together to create a rainbow barrier to allow LGBTQIA+ events to occur for young people across Victoria and beyond, and we are joined by Louise to find out all about her experience as a Rainbow community angel. -
Grandad’s Pride – QUILTBAG Story Time
Cal joined Rach & Dean as they dove into their QUILTBAG to find another rainbow story to highlight on JOY Breakfast.
Grandad’s Pride by Harry Woodgate
Grandad and Milly reunite to learn about Pride and the power of community in this touching and vibrant sequel to Waterstones Prize-winning Grandad’s Camper.
The highly-anticipated sequel to Waterstones Prize-winning Grandad’s Camper celebrates the power of community and the importance of LGBTQIA+ history. Milly can’t wait to spend a summer at Grandad’s cottage by the sea, and is even more excited when she discovers Grandad and Gramps’ Pride flag in the attic.
Grandad insists he’s too old to go to the London celebrations, especially now Gramps isn’t around any more, but Milly has an idea to get the local community together and bring Pride to Grandad.

Thorne Harbour Health Volunteering
Cal joins Rach and Dean to chat about what it is like volunteering with Thorne Harbour Health. Especially during times of great need, volunteers show up for Thorne Harbour from everything from front desk receptionists to fast tracking folks through to get their Monkey Pox Vaccinations. These organisations started on the backs of volunteers and continue to be carried through to the future.

She’s my Dad! – QUILTBAG Story Time
Rach & Dean opened up their QUILTBAG to see what Rainbow Story was there for them this morning on JOY Breakfast, and it was ‘She’s my Dad!’, written by Sarah Savage and illustrated by Joules Garcia.
‘She’s my Dad!’ is an illustrated picture book that tells the story of Mini and her dad Haley, a transgender woman, as Mini explains to her cousin why misgendering is damaging and emphasises the need to treat trans people with respect. For children aged 3+ who have a family member who is transitioning.

Take the Rainbow Libraries Community Survey
When it comes to our communities and libraries in the past year, they have become a bit of an unnecessary battle ground in gender politics, when they are in fact safe welcoming community spaces where everyone should be able to come and find information and community.
The Rainbow Libraries Project, supported by Public Libraries Victoria has put together a resource to support Victorian public Library staff to welcome LGBTQIA+ families into libraries, and have created a survey to get our communities feedback about it.
Violet joined Rach & Dean to tell them all about it.
