    The Asian Trailblazers

    The Asian Trailblazers

The reason we started this podcast is because we wanted to challenge the boundaries of Asian American identity. We love celebrating all the diverse and unique experiences of Asian Americans here at Off the Soju.

A recent poll done by the leading Asian Americans to unite for change (LAAUNCH) revealed that the three adjectives most used to describe Asians Americans were smart, hardworking, and nice. Although these adjectives seem to be desirable traits, not all of us align with that perception. Some of us want to be sexy, cool, outspoken, confident, passionate, etc.

Today, we celebrate the Asians trailblazers who defied the boundaries of what an Asian can be. Those who we admired while growing up where we could say, “Hey that person looks like me.. and they’re doing that.”

    Father's Day

    Father's Day

    Happy Father’s Day!!
Father’s Day is a holiday that fosters many different emotions depending on your experience with your pops. There are those who have a special bond and loving relationship, those who have a bittersweet relationship, and those who have no relationship whatsoever. However, Father’s Day is a day that is worth pondering about. A day that forces you to realize the importance of the father figure.
On this episode of off the soju, we bring in a very special guest! He is an important person in both mine and Winston’s lives. He is none other than mr Jaxon Tai! This episode is an intimate one, as we share our experience with fatherhood and what we think fatherhood means. No soju necessary for this one (although it may help.)

We are living through a post-Trump era, filled with many racial tensions and a vast divide in opinions and political stances. In a time like this, it’s so easy to point out the negatives and have a pessimistic outlook on America. There are those who walk around with weary shoulders and there are those who march with their heads up high, fighting for the possibilities that lie in the future.

For our fourth episode, we bring to you Kyle “DJ Asthmatc” Decallos. Kyle is a man of fitness, both physically and mentally. He is a DJ, physical fitness manager and trainer, activist, and the current president of NAACP’s San Jose youth branch. Join us as Kyle schools us on the history of oppression on minorities and how our roots relate to our identity.
