Mighty Ducks: Game Changers Episode 2 (Mortal Kombat Annihilation review)

We open this episode with our Mortal Kombat Annihilation review. SPOILER ALERT! It sucks! Moving on. 

The Don't Bothers have their first practice.....Kind of. Coach A has her team. And now its time to get to work. Coach A's version of practice is not what Evan or his teammates had in mind.  We deep dive into her coaching methods and team building exercises involving theft, using a childs good looks to accomplish their mission and possibly num-chuks.  We find out more about coach Bombay's distain for kids and hockey. This show is getting real good. Stay tuned till the end of this episode with a blooper clip featuring producer Russ' daughter Boogie. 

MORTAL KOMBAT! And if you did not scream that before your mind plays the techno music, then you have never watched this classic film from 1995.  Lets again go back to the mid 90s.  The news channels and Karen mothers are in an uproar. This video game has swept the nation because of its bloody content.  And of course the movie industry had to capitalize in at the box office. This movie had it all! All of your favorite characters, a plot so easy to follow, it only takes 5 minutes into the movie to understand it. We see good martial arts sequences. And we hear Scorpion shout, "Get over here!". I mean what more do you want? Oh, you wanted a bloody fatality in the movie? Sorry, it was rated PG-13. So there is that let down. But let us tell you all about the other let downs in this film, along with the good stuff. So again, MORTAL KOMBAT!

Mighty Ducks: Game Changers Episode 1

Oh boy oh boy! This is so exciting to be able to talk about one of our favorite childhood trilogies getting a series reboot. We have long awaited to find out what happened to the "Minnesota Miracle Man" Gordon Bombay. And what happened to the D5 hockey league? Well we get our answers in episode 1 of Game Changers. We will be breaking down every episode weekly. Along with our ridiculous rants about how Bombay might possibly have a thing for single hockey moms. We also talk about the parallels between the original films and this series.  We definitely don't care about this new generation of youthful Duck fans. This series was made for the thirty year old people who played street hockey in the 90s and mastered the knuckle puck.  

It is 1992. You and your brother are button mashing your Super Nintendo controller trying to make Ryu throw a fire ball. And your little brother is Blanka, who has found out that all he has to do is hold down and punch to make that guy electrocute you. We are talking about Street Fighter. Not the game but the over the top, one line masterpiece that is the movie. Your remember the movie. The Jean-Claude Van Damme movie that has him using the same kicks and slow motion fight scene. (That is most likely in his film contract) This is also sadly Raul Julia's last film before he passed. This film has it all. Action, video game controllers, high speeding water boats equipped with VHS players, cage fighting, comedy, video game accurate costumes, a very poor Jamaican accented guy, green ooze that turns you into a monster, and Kylie Minogue. I mean after reading that, I bet you are going to watch it right now.  Or maybe you should just listen to us tell you about this pile of burning cheese and save your self 2 hours. YOU WIN! PERFECT! Go back and read that in the Street Fighter video game victory voice. 

It is maybe the unsung hero of video game movies. Matt and I find out that this movie is a very underated martial arts film.  We watched the NES classic video game movie, Double Dragon. You may remember watching this movie Sunday afternoon in the late 90s on your local UPN channel. Remember the UPN channel? Pepperidge Farms remembers. I also remember the show Homeboys in Outer Space on the same channel.  Maybe a future podcast topic.  But in this episode we break down how awesome Double Dragon was.  This movie had a great cast and some very fun loving heroes and villians.  Let's go back to the 90s, when it was ok to call each other butthead and when Alyssa Milano looked great with a blonde buzz cut. 

Remember when Nintendo was the biggest video game console in the 80s and 90s? And remember when Super Mario bros was the best video game in the world? And that time the Super Mario had a box office hit? Ok so the the box office hit never happened. But the movie sure did.  And yes, we watched it willingly in order to try and I repeat TRY to make some sense of this film. We do our best to break this movie down for this podcast.
