How to meet demand for data centre capacity in times of growing pressure

How to meet demand for data centre capacity in times of growing pressure

In this podcast interview, The Tech Capital speaks to Natalya Makarochkina, Senior Vice President of the Secure Power Division at Schneider Electric, about how the company supports sustainable growth internationally to meet the demands for faster, flexible, and more reliable data centre deployments.

Makarochkina explains that the demand for capacity from businesses is being driven by various influences, including the need for increased computing power, cloud-based services, and the rise of the Internet of Things (IoT). In high growth regions, there is a greater demand for data centre infrastructure, which has led to the need for more efficient and sustainable solutions.

In terms of infrastructure, Makarochkina notes that there are various breakdowns, including power outages and cooling failures, which can lead to costly downtime for businesses. However, with the new level of capacity and capability available, businesses can utilise these solutions to improve their operations and increase efficiency.

To meet the demand being seen, especially in light of new modes of usage, it is essential to quickly build out capacity. Makarochkina suggests that businesses can utilise modular data centres, which can be constructed quickly and efficiently.

With energy issues being a concern for data centre operators, sustainability is becoming increasingly important. The executive explains that vendors and service providers can help alleviate these pressures by providing more efficient and sustainable solutions.

Assessing the impact of a service provider's operations is important for businesses, and Makarochkina suggests that transparency can be improved by using standardized metrics and reporting frameworks.

Finally, Makarochkina notes that many vendors in the data infrastructure space are on their own transformation and sustainability journeys. To further these ambitions, the industry as a whole can work towards creating more sustainable and efficient solutions.

How Data4 approaches new data centre markets in a changing European landscape | The Tech Capital

How Data4 approaches new data centre markets in a changing European landscape | The Tech Capital

The European data centre marketplace is transforming right before our very own eyes. Whilst headlines have for years focused on Tier 1 markets like London, Frankfurt, and Dublin, now, it is the Tier 2 and even Tier 3 locations that are driving a lot of the overall investment.

Joining The Tech Capital’s João Marques Lima in this extended special interview is one of the key players cementing that investment transition.

With a footprint of 28 data centres across the continent and several projects underway, operator Data4 has rapidly become a large-scale player in recent years.

Chief commercial officer Adam Levine shares his thoughts on the reasons why the demand tide is rising in Europe across key markets and why it is important that operators pay attention to public opinion which has changed in recent years and not always in favour of the industry.

Levine also delves into the company’s digital infrastructure rollout in existing and new markets, and how sustainability and culture play a vital role in its expansion with the key to its success being local ownership.
