The Healthy Body Plan (HBP) Science of Weight Loss Show was conceived out of frustration with the many fad diets we see on TV, in the bookstore and hear from our friends. These fad diets include fraudulent supplements, fat burning quackery and general confusion. As an experienced health promotion researcher, I will bring all of the proven evidence that leads to long-term weight loss and develop a program that can be customized for each individual.
The library of episodes includes several formats. Hot topic podcasts are a summary of key issues from each chapter covered in the iBook - "Science of Weight Loss". Audio podcast tracks from the video presentations for each book chapter are included in the show. The chapter summaries average 30 minutes with 2 or 3 topics in each episode. The audio tracks from the videos are approximately 5 minutes each. The 20 chapters each include a summary podcasts and the audio tracks for the videos.
I found that almost 50% of the HBP material was widely published and found in most reputable programs and books. This knowledge was found in consensus statements from medical groups such as the American Dietetic Association and the American College of Sports Medicine. Another 30% of the HBP content was mined from scientific peer reviewed articles.
These evidence-based body fat reduction content were accepted by the scientific community but were not widely reported or discussed in many programs. The remaining 20% of the HBP is based on my experience and scientific literature that may or may not be directly related to body composition and the science of body weight management. Behavioral issues were typically extracted in this last category.
The research I have conducted as well as the experience of millions of individuals show the gain of weight after a diet program. Why do so many of us fail at sustained weight loss? I was fortunate enough to evaluate the quality and outcomes of numerous weight management programs over the years. Two factors appeared to be obvious in the best programs. First, the educator was dynamic almost entertaining and extremely knowledgeable.
Second, programs with the most success emphasized behavioral techniques. This aspect fascinated me and eventually led to a major focus in my doctoral dissertation study. The result of this research, personal observations and creative thought produced the Science of Weight Loss-HBP Weight Loss Show.
The main emphasis of the Science of Weight Loss is the goals of making small changes in daily tasks and habits that will be sustained over your lifetime. The program is not a diet or a quick fix.
