[המשך] מכיון שבקשת צרכיו מה' הוא מ"ע מן התורה, ואסור לאדם לצער את גופו – כיצד מותרים אלו שגרים בסמיכות לירושלים לדחות את שאלת הגשמים שצריכים מיד אחרי החג (בודאות) – בגלל הדאגה לטובת ה"אחרון בישראל" (מצד הספק)?! והביאור: כאשר יהודי חדור ברגש של אהבת ישראל כדרוש – הרי בידעו שקיימת אפשרות ש"אחרון שבישראל" יצטער על הגשם – לא יתכן שירגיש צורך בירידת גשמים להשקות את שדותיו, ולא יתכן שיהנה מזה! ובמילא אינו חייב לבקש על זה ואינו מצטער ע"ז שאינו יכול לשאול גשמים, ואדרבה – אילו היו יורדים גשמים לפני ז' חשון הי' מצטער בגלל צערו של ה"אחרון בישראל"! רגש זה של אהבת ישראל שייך לכאו"א מישראל, שלכן הדין שאין שואלים גשמים בא"י לפני ז' חשון הוא פס"ד ברור בשו"ע; כאשר יתכן ש"אחרון בישראל" יצטער על כך שיעצרנו הגשם – ברור הדבר שאצל כאו"א מישראל יתבטל כל הרצון והצורך בירידת גשמים לפני ז' חשון!

Synopsis

(Continued.) Since requesting one’s needs from Hashem is a positive mitzvah of the Torah, and a person is forbidden to afflict his body, how is it permitted for those living near Yerushalayim to postpone their request for rain (which they definitely need), out of concern that rain might hinder the journey of the last Jew returning home (which is only a possibility)? The answer is that when a Jew is imbued with true Ahavas Yisroel, the knowledge that there is even a possibility that the last Jew returning home might suffer discomfort from the rain makes it impossible for him to feel a need for rain to water his fields. Therefore, he is not obligated to ask for rain, and he feels no distress from not asking for it. On the contrary, if rain were to fall before 7 Cheshvan, he would be distressed from the distress of the last Jew returning home. And because this feeling of Ahavas Yisroel is possible for every Jew, it was established as law that one does not request rain in Eretz Yisroel before 7 Cheshvan.
