"חכמה" (ללא קשר להנהגה בפועל) יש גם בגוים אבל לא ענין ה"תורה" (הוראה שמיישמים אותה בפועל). כי כדי לפעול עם האדם לוותר על כבודו, על הקנאה והתאוה וכדומה – אין הדבר אפשרי אא"כ זה מיוסד על קיום רצונו של בורא העולם ומנהיגו. ובדורנו זה, כאשר דוקא אצל אותו עם שהתפאר בענינים של חכמה ומדע חקירה ומוסר וכו' הי' היפך הענין דצדק ויושר באופן הכי מבהיל – הוכח זאת. וזהו גם מה שמסכת אבות, שבו מדובר בעניני מוסר ומדות טובות, מתחיל "משה קיבל תורה מסיני", שכן זוהי הערובה היחידה להנהגה עפ"י צדק ויושר בנוגע לעצמו ובנוגע לזולת – "והעמידו תלמידים הרבה" (כהמשך המשנה). וכמדובר כמ"פ ש"הרבה" פירושו שלא שייך ריבוי גדול יותר! היינו שלא נשאר אפילו יהודי אחד שאינו בכלל זה. ועד"ז צ"ל ההשפעה על אוה"ע. וכאשר ה"דברים יוצאים מן הלב – נכנסים אל הלב ופועלים פעולתם", ורואה "פרי טוב בעמלו".

Synopsis
“Wisdom” (unmoored from practical deed) can be found even among the nations, but “Torah” comes only from Sinai. Because to get a person to forego his own honor, jealousy, and desires etc. – is impossible unless built on the foundation of fulfilling the will of the Creator and Ruler of the world. This is especially proven in our generation, the nation which boasted of being the most advanced in wisdom, science, philosophy and morality etc. – stooped to the most horrifying evil. This is also why Pirkei Avos, which is about ethics and positive traits, begins with “Moshe received the Torah from Sinai.” Because that is the only guarantee for just and upright conduct with regards to oneself and others. The Mishna continues, “Raise many students.” “Many” means that not even one Jew remains unreached; similarly, we must influence the nations of the world as well. And “Words spoken from the heart enter the heart and have their effect,” allowing one to see “good fruits from his labor.”
