02. How to Help Your Clients with Intuitive Eating & Weight-Inclusive Care

Nourished with Kindness

This episode covers the frameworks of Intuitive Eating and Health at Every Size(R) by defining their principles, explaining common misconceptions, and speaking to their evolution over time. This episode is for you if you ever find yourself asking questions like: “Why do we as dietitians love IE and HAES so darn much? Are these approaches really healthy? How do we support our clients using these principles? We dive in by discussing the differences between HAES the movement vs. the book and why we love the pillars of HAES to support our clients. Then we discuss the principles of Intuitive Eating and how cultural foods, food security issues, and personal preferences must be taken into account when working with clients. We also discuss the importance of gentle nutrition (as in, yes we do talk about nutrition as part of Intuitive Eating), and the challenges of applying Intuitive Eating with clients who struggle with various health conditions. We share our explanations of different aspects to these approaches to help you work with clients to support them in their journey towards body acceptance and overall wellbeing.
