02: Tackling New Mom Stress with Dr. Jenkins Mamma Hustle

    • Entrepreneurship

This episode I had the pleasure of interviewing my first guest Dr. Jenkins. We discuss the emotions that come when a new mom transitions into motherhood and grieving her previous life. We also discuss the need for support during this transition and how motherhood is the perfect time to start a new business as ideas are flowing during this period of life.

Key Takeaways:

Taking care of yourself is important to fuel your ability to do both growing a family and a business.
Early motherhood is a fabulous time to grow businesses because our brains change when we have babies (and creating a business often presents options for managing childcare and home life that a traditional career may not).
There are two things that help prevent maternal mental health issues: Addressing a lack of support and managing anxiety.

Guest Spotlight: Dr. Danielle Jenkins

Today's guest is a psychologist and maternal mental health expert that has been working with families for over 20 years, first as a nanny, then as a preschool teacher, and then as a postpartum doula before finally pursuing a doctorate degree psychology. She now has a private practice in Washington State where she enjoys seeing women help them problem solve the frustrations of new parenting and help women and their partners overcome the pain of infertility, birth trauma, pregnancy, and postpartum mood and anxiety disorders.

One of her favorite things is helping women who feel they have lost themselves during the postpartum period recover and thrive.
