027 | Dre Baldwin Reminds Us That Persistence is the Key to Business
Dre Baldwin is the world's only “Work On Your Game” expert. A 9-year professional basketball player, Dre teaches mental toughness, self-confidence and self-discipline to athletes, entrepreneurs and business professionals. Dre started publishing to YouTube in 2006 -- a discipline that continues to this day, with content going out to his 120,000+ subscribers and being viewed over 40 million times.
When most people decide to become entrepreneurs they understand that the journey won’t be easy or quick. They know starting a business is a long-term game, but you will often see many people quit after just a short amount of time, or when they experience their first failure or setback. In this episode Dre shares why being persistent (and NEVER quitting) is the ONE THING that consistently made him stand out from all others.
Dre experienced some major setbacks in his journey to be a pro basketball player, some that ended with him working at footlocker and not on a team. However, he never allowed these things to keep him from taking the next big step. He’d get right back up and plot his path towards his goal.
Dre shares with the Success Unfiltered listeners, how he remained so completely focused in some of his darkest moments. There is so much inspiration to be found in this episode!
Tune in as Dre shares his incredible journey from a college graduate to pro basketball player and motivational speaker.

Here are a few key secrets we talked about in this episode:

Michelle introduces Dre Baldwin. Dre shares the first major NO he heard, taking us all the way back to his very first time trying out for a minor league basketball team. Dre let nothing get in the way of his goals and dreams! He spent time working at Footlocker and Bally Total Fitness, while also working on his basketball skills. In order to make the pros, Dre had to crack the code and figure out what they were looking for in an athlete in order to excel. Dre had a shocking experience when he went to tryouts for the first (and second time). Dre briefly shares what working in sales at Bally Total Fitness was like. While attending exposure camp, Dre found an agent, who then got him a contract with a team in Lithuania. The contract didn’t last long, Dre shares the whole story! The lowest point of Dre’s life was when he was working the overnight shift at a grocery store. Dre explains why this was the lowest point and how he got out of it. Dre shares how he got his spark for basketball back. Dre’s next contract took him to Germany, he shares this drama filled story with my listeners. His agent worked to try to get him on a team in Ireland, which fell through, but ended up being the turning point for Dre and his YouTube channel. “Work on Your Game.” ~ Dre Baldwin “Everybody has a game that you're in. You're gonna win your game. You're gonna lose your game, but you gotta show up every day, do the work.” ~ Dre Baldwin Dre shares the ONE THING that makes him stand out above
