122. Teen Dating - What Parents Need To Know w/Saundra Golden Purposely Thriving Podcast
-
- Relationships
One of the hardest challenges sometimes as a parent is seeing your child grow up.
They start to develop interests in things that as parents we may not always be prepared and ready for and one of those areas is dating.
Whether we want to accept this part of our teen or not, dating matters and it's important to them.
Dismissing it, minimizing it, and believing that because they're "too young to know what love is" doesn't take away those feelings and questions that they have.
Many of our teens are seeking information and attempting to navigate this process on their own, however, if we reflect back on how we managed relationships in our youth, would it have been better had we had the education, understanding and support from our family in a way that allowed us to feel safe in expressing our thoughts and feelings?
February is known for Teen Dating Violence Awareness month and according to the CDC, studies show that 1 in 12 teens experience physical and sexual violence. How we as parents get more involved? How can parents create a safe space for their teen to discuss dating and relationships?
On this week's podcast episode, join me as I talk with Mother-Daughter Coach Saundra Golden as she shares her teen dating violence experience at the age of 17, what turned her life around when she became a mom, and how communicating with your teen effectively builds a trust and deeper bond.
