Mythical giants once roamed the land; flawed gods dispensing unfettered joy and happiness wherever they stopped for an hour or two. Women threw their affections with abandon at them. Men gave them magical potions to fuel their journeys and soaked in their effervescence. The people in this land told stories with light images projected on a wall or in enchanted boxes distributed in every home. They were stories filled with horror, love, and humor, accompanied with the sound of music. These are the recollections of one soul who was once a little giant and still makes the music for those stories. This is invisible arts.Richard Gibbs was the keyboardist in the band Oingo Boingo and performed as a session player, arranger, and producer for hundreds of artists such as Robert Palmer, Aretha Franklin, Korn, and Tom Waits. He was the musical director for the Muppets and the Tracey Ullman Show and has toured with Chaka Khan and Tom Jones. His 70+ film and television scoring credits cover the gamut from Dr. Dolittle and the Simpsons to Queen of the Damned and Battlestar Galactica. Richard’s exclusive seaside studio, Woodshed Recording, has become a creative magnet for the elite artists of the day. Coldplay, Shawn Mendes, Chance the Rapper, U2, Lady Gaga, Barbra Streisand and many more have been drawn there to realize their sonic visions. This show is part of Pantheon - Podcasts for Music Lovers.

My new fave!

I can’t tell you how much I love this podcast!
Richard Gibbs is a fantastic storyteller, with great insights into his storied career. Not to mention the cast of characters that pop in to add their perspective. Richard, I want to go back and rewatch Step into Liquid just to listen to the score!

Well worth the time

I love the topics, flow, and stories. Always entertaining and thought provoking, it is a joy to listen to. Without a doubt, one of the better podcasts on this platform.

Music lovers rejoice!

Manna from Heaven for music lovers! Gibbs is such a talented musician—instrumentalist, composer, producer—his career has led such a wild and varied path that his stories are incredibly entertaining, often including contributions from other people involved from every area of music. Well produced and the perfect length—always a great listen!

(I should specify that I am not the piano/keyboard tech friend Richard refers to in the Fire Engine Red Piano episode, who is also named Jim Wilson)
