158: The Most Important Business Lessons I Have Learned Dr. Nicolya Show

    • Self-Improvement

I celebrated 6 years in business . And while these 6 years have been quite a roller coaster and my business has changed a ton (I went from writing blogs, trying to monetize my blog, writing books to coaching) I have learned a lot along the way and I wanted to take some time to share it with you today! Here are my 6 greatest takeaways.

1. Don’t be scared to ask for help. A lot of times we buy into the idea that if we ask for help we’re doing something wrong or it’s a form of weakness. For me learning to ask for help took far too long but was a major game changer for me. So this may look like hiring a coach this may look like bringing on an assistant can look a lot of different movies but don’t be scared to ask for the help you deserve.

2. Trust your intuition. I can’t stress enough that your body knows best. Listen to it! So when you’re feeling called to do something specific (you’re feeling called to say yes to something or to even say no) trust that it is a safe form of internal guidance leading you to exactly what you deeply desire. Part of the reason it took me so long to scale was because I didn’t trust myself. Doing that internal work was such an eye opener for me.

3. Mindset is critical. For years I bought into the hustle, hard work and strategy component of building my business. And it left me with major burn out. It wasn’t until I decided to do some mindset work that things began to truly change for me. Here’s what I learned, you can have all the systems, strategy and support in the world but if your mindset isn’t aligned none of that’s going to matter so prioritize it. This experience is the very reason I weave mindset into the work I do with my clients. Having that balance of strategy and mindset is critical!

4. There is more than one way to define success in fact I wrote an entire dissertation on it. But to sum it up we have to change the narrative of what society has sold us as the normal version of success. For me buying into that 2.5 kids, married with a house with a white picket fence and a dog felt unaligned for me, but I normalized it for years. It’s no wonder why we carry that same approach into business. Here is the truth- There is no one sizes fits all model to growing your business.

5. Self care is a must- it’s tempting to put yourself on the back burner when you have such a big vision that stirs your spirit keeps you up at night and gives you so much energy and momentum. But without taking care of yourself it is a sure fire strategy to burn out and it surely won’t get you any closer to your goals. So as you create space to move toward your vision make sure that self-love and self care are a priority in that process .

6. Be yourself . Business, maybe one of the biggest personal development journeys ever. And it’s easy to lose yourself in the process because often your business can be a mirror, reflecting back some of your deepest and greatest insecurities. But one thing I’ve learned along this journey is that with each reflection I’ve had there’s something to be learned and more importantly, that if I try to mirror and match what everyone else is going, I’m going to burn myself out because I’m not being true to myself. Your authenticity is your greatest asset and learning how to leverage it will be the biggest game changer for you you
