1619

In August of 1619, a ship carrying more than 20 enslaved Africans arrived in the English colony of Virginia. America was not yet America, but this was the moment it began. No aspect of the country that would be formed here has been untouched by the 250 years of slavery that followed. On the 400th anniversary of this fateful moment, it is time to tell the story. “1619” is a New York Times audio series hosted by Nikole Hannah-Jones. Really liked episodes 1,2,4 & 5 but the others were speculation and kinda racist to whites I feel like, otherwise I did like the podcast. It was really informative and made well I just didn’t like how the main narrator woman(I’m bad with names) kept not mentioning how some whites helped and fought against slavery, and I didn’t like how she said blacks helped in the Underground Railroad (the way she said it)she said it in a way implying that whites didnt help that much and that history ignored the blacks who did help it’s kinda like she undermined the whites that did help so I was just stuck awkwardly listening to her sound kinda racist. Overall I rate the podcast 7/10
Beautifully told history

This history is searing and calls us to uphold our best aspirations as laid out in our founding declaration. Having walked the grounds referred to in the book, and having read the book when it was first published I know these chapters fill in human details that give personal meaning and relevance to hard facts. The pod just enriches the experience of the listener. The nonsense written in some of the so-called reviews here is clear evidence that our past isn’t dead & the author is on to something significant. Clearly the ‘old south’ is alive but not at all well, yelling its racist head off. The founders (& Lincoln) knew slavery was wrong and said so despite their conflicting interests. We can no longer say with a straight face that we don’t know our historical origins. The question is whether we can ever overcome it. Thanks again to NHJones and NYT for this achievement.

This podcast is politically correct, but historically wrong, propaganda.
