#166 – Anyone Can Get Fired. Learn How to Protect Yourself

The Manage 2 Win Podcast

Partnerships can be easy to get into, and very difficult to end amicably.  The reason is expectations of each party have too many assumptions, rather than being documented clearly in-writing with a lawyer.

I’ve been there, done that.  Had a partner decades ago who gave me no credit for the positives and blamed me for all the problems, even though his signature was on bank checks, internal approval documents, and more.  Who’s responsible for the problems?  Who gets the assets, or buyout funds?

Jotham S. Stein is the principal of the Law Offices of Jotham S. Stein P.C.  He has discussed thousands of partner and employment agreements over the past few decades.  He has “seen it all.”  Unfortunately, too much of that experience is helping hard working entrepreneurs and C-Suite executives get what they deserve, or salvage what they can, when they failed to protect themselves from the outset.

Stein’s new book, Negotiate Like a CEO, is an engaging look at how all employees can protect themselves with lessons learned from top entrepreneurs and executives and how you can too.  He is also the author of Even CEOs Get Fired, Executive Employment Law: Protecting Executives, Entrepreneurs and Employees.

Join David and Jotham as they discuss how you can be more realistic when accepting a new role or forming a partnership.  Ending a work relationship or professional partnership should be a mutual celebration, not a war.  Listen to Jotham’s advice on how to negotiate like a CEO, because CEO’s take care of themselves first in their employment agreements.
