National WHAAT Day Is It?
18WT 018: So today our hosts begin by singing about alcohol of course, but quickly go into National What Day is it? Every day has a National day for what day is it they agree. So they go on to explain how today’s episode came about.
Every day of the year has a bunch “National (Insert your cause here) Day’s” attached to it. Some days have over a dozen even. They did the research and decided that since there are so many of these attached to every day, they would try and keep it funny. They went through the month, complied the list, took off the politics, religion, and offensive days (yes there are those).
Patrick points out that by the time this Airs, it will be May and May 1st is National Beer Pong Day. So Patrick talks about starting at the beginning, which makes Janet start to sing of course. He tells her not to quit her day job until he realizes that this is it, oops. They take another brief detour talking about Patrick’s hours. How he used to go to bed at 5am, he used to get up at 5am. Now he just schedules the weekly podcast to go out every Monday at 5am. This third option is much easier he believes.
Patrick thanks the listeners and asks listeners to give him the Birthday gift of reviews. That is all he asked for this year, which was his Big 50. 5 starts on any of the podcast choices such as Apple, Podchaser, iHeart, Spotify, or on their website directly! Podchaser gave out a donation (for reviews of them during April) on their behalf. It might be continuing in May; he is not sure yet.

Raise Your Hand If You Are.....!
18WT 016: After a bit of laughter and pug talk, Patrick and Janet get down to talking about Blended Families and what they are. Raise your hand if you are from a blended family and immediately Patrick gets a bit contrary. Janet brings the Ritz man back down to earth with saltine lady. That is from a previous podcast, from Patrick not wanting to be called Caucasian.
Janet discusses Blended families. So, Julius Caesar, (Caligula) had sex with his half-sister and had children by her. She explains to Patrick that they did share the same father. Patrick is pretty grossed out by that, which leads to talk of Harem’s. And then do these still exist? Yes, but in America they do not refer to them as a Harem, but in certain society’s here in the states, there are one-man multiple wives allowed.
Then back “in the day” in royalty, they in-bred cousins to keep the line pure. If a freak happened, well as Patrick says, they put Quasimodo in the dungeon and hid him from society.
Janet is talking about how blended families have evolved, from Rome to the Old west or during the wars. There were widows or widowers and they got remarried so there was help either financially or physically to help raise the children. That still exists, also in the form of divorce now. As Janet says even tho she and Patrick are not married, she is essentially a Step-Monster.

What Does It Mean To You, To Be An American!
18WT 015: In today’s Episode after a few jokes, and laughter, Janet asks Patrick “what does it mean to you to be an American? Janet tells Patrick, you know, some people call that “home grown, born and bred right here in the good ‘ol U.S. of A. you know, America. Patrick responds with “MERICA” as some like to say.
Now there are those that would describe that as Patriotic. And there are those that would describe that as Traitorous, don’t let the door hit ya where the good Lord split ya. This immediately brings up talk of the border, the illegals, the homeless. Janet heard that in San Diego they emptied out a stadium of homeless people to let immigrants live there. However, it is children, what do you do when it is children? In St. Louis, the news showed some men came to the border and dropped two young children over the border wall and ran away. How do you leave your children and run away? Janet cannot fathom that.
Patrick and Janet discuss how you will do anything to better your child’s life. But they throw in some jokes at the expense of Kyle, of course. And this turns briefly to the term “step-monster”.
Back on track after some singing…the border and America. They both believe you can come here legally and be an American. Then Patrick rewinds, briefly and they go over “the rules” again. Born here, you are an American; came here, passed the test, you are an American. Here illegally, go home.
At every election, when you are saying you are leaving, Janet says leave and quit talking about it. Patrick argues her bringing up election, but she dips her toe in it anyway.
Patrick brings up that these are big stars that do all of this “I am leaving” talk.

Hobbies - It's A Bird, It's A Plane, His RC Car Is Insane!
18WT 014: Our hosts are joined by Patrick’s brother-in-law Larry Heller. He starts out a little bit nervous and Patrick goes where no Host should go, of course. This leaves Janet shaking her head. She begins by asking how Larry got into RC cars.
He began in his hometown of Schenectady NY with a friend of his. He began with Nitro cars; this was in 2011; he explained that a Nitro car runs off Nitrous. He then went to gas then electric. He went from a Mad Max RC car to a Tesla RC car is how Patrick explains it.
Janet asks about the batteries and Larry explains that per battery the cost can be $489 for a pro that competes. Larry shows his battery and car hook up; it is the Arrma 6s Felony. This is a 1/7th scale RC car. It goes 80miles an hour out of the box. He has clocked it at 73mph. He shows them the car without the body on it and makes Janet dizzy as he turns his camera back and forth.
The batteries are a twin battery pack. Larry refers to them as “LiPo’s”, they are 5000 milli-amp, G2, 11.1 volt, 50C 3S. Larry explains that is just to run it, the speed comes from the motor, a Spektrum Firma 2050K-v motor, he has knobby tires that came with it, they can be upgraded; the front tires are different from the rear tires. This set up is on road but could be used off road, probably causing damage to the car. He talks about running without the body and the damage it would cause.
It comes with a launch control like dirt bikes, the talk turns to RC helicopters and planes briefly. He wants to go to events because he can draw a crowd when he drifts the car and smokes the tires. It is AWD, very quick, like a miniature Tesla, with the look of an old muscle car.

Hobbies - It's A Bird, It's A Plane, No, It's A Choo Choo Train!
18WT 013: In this episode, Patrick and Janet begin talking about their giveaway at 18wheeltalk.com/giveaway go there and vote for one of the five mugs. The mug with the most votes WINS. To vote, we need your first name and email address. If you are one of the LUCKY TWENTY WINNERS, you will WIN the mug and a Podcast shirt. All mugs are ambidextrous. They joke around for a few minutes about coffee, St. Patricks’ Day, mugs, and food, oh and pugs. Soon after they are joined by Patrick’s father, Charles Heller. We hear and see the similarities between father, and son come alive in this interview as they laugh together and reminisce.
Charles is a lifelong model train enthusiast, who’s love of model trains began when he was a teenager. When he began, you could not purchase track and snap them together. You had to build them, board by board just like the real thing. No easy feat, considering the track was 5/8” track HO gauge (trains are 3-4” tall). You bought the wooden base and nailed the rails to the base. Charles said that it took several weeks just to make a “simple” oval track back then. He currently uses G scale outdoors (track is 1 ¾”), Lionel trains are O scale (track is 1 ¼”), next is S gauge (track is 7/8”), then HO gauge that he began with, then N gauge (track is 3/8”), which is what Patrick is familiar with. Charles had N gauge when Patrick was growing up. The last one is called Z gauge which fit in a briefcase, ¼ “ track (microscopic). Charles believes there is another one smaller than Z gauge.
Patrick talks about the show Silver Spoons where the Dad road around the house on the train. Charles says it is probably a 5”, Patrick wants one for the pugs. No matter what gauge you are using, it can be very expensive. They go on to discuss the model train museum in Scottsdale AZ and how much fun they had touring it with Dad & Mom.
