#19 Interview with Richard Bothwell owner of Outdoor Adventure Club Daring to Dabble

    • Health & Fitness

In this episode we had the pleasure of sitting down with co-founder and owner of the Outdoor Adventure Club, Richard Bothwell.
The Outdoor Adventure Club  (OAC website link) is the premier choice for Bay Area residents looking to participate in outdoor adventures. Founded in 1996 by professional guides with a passion for getting people outside, the OAC leads adventures in California and across the globe to create memories that last a lifetime for their participants. With the OAC, participants experience amazing terrain, go places they might not go on solo, learn new skills from professional guides— all in a fun, welcoming community environment. If you are looking for awesome, guided experiences in the great outdoors, join the other Bay Area adventurers and make your weekend count!

The OAC takes all of the guesswork out of planning your next activity or weekend. From Rock Climbing, to snowshoeing, gorgeous hikes to Avalanche AIRE training, the OAC has a little something for everyone. The beauty of it is that you know you are safe hands the whole time with well trained, friendly and supportive guides so you can just focus on the fun of the experience.

The OAC also provides the amazing opportunity to meet new people is an relaxed, shared experience based situation. In this Episode Richard talks about how although the OAC is not intended to serve as a singles meet up situation, the community of participants are so welcoming and thoughtful that many couples over the years have met and married through joining in on the outdoor fun.

Elise and I are huge believers in the value of community and what better place to meet and befriend new people than out learning new skills! Shared experience is one of the greatest factors contributing to strong, lasting friendships.

In this Episode the  three of us also discuss the value of doing things that you love, even if you aren't good at it.  Activities that bring you high levels of joy are essential to living a full life. We discuss how frequently people don't do things when they are not good at it. Under the same thought processes often people don't try new things because of fear of failure.  The whole concept of Daring to Dabble is to try new things all of the time and let go of the need to be good at everything. Sucking at stuff is cool, as long as you are enjoying yourself of course.

We also discuss having the curiosity to start tuning into our bodies and listening for signals that guide us to try new things, take chances and make shifts in life. Richard shares about how the OAC was originally created. He speaks about the intuitive feeling we get, a quiet knock, a gentle tug, sometimes it's a bullhorn, that guides us to make shifts in our lives or to take a chance on something new.  These moments occur for us all, but so much of the time we are too distracted to listen. Both Daring to Dabble and OAC advocate for finding the quiet moments or new experiences that allow you to enhance and develop that listening.  Choose to start making changes and starting something new, we all have the capacity to get so much more out of our one extraordinary life!

There are so many more juicy tidbits of discussion that exist in this episode. Challenge, change, community, courage, curiosity... the list goes on and one.

Listen to this podcast. Don't miss out on life, it's happening right now.
