Former Team USA Bobsledder and current Lead Endurance Consultant at Renaissance Periodization joins today’s show for an insightful conversation about perseverance, belief in oneself and the control we have over our own destiny. With a PhD in sports physiology and performance, Dr. Alex works with professional and amateur athletes alike dial in their programming and diet to compete at their highest level. An accomplished athlete in his own right, Alex is a former Team USA Bobsledder and 2x All-American Track and Field athlete who today competes in Triathlons and cycling.
In today’s show, Alex discusses his progression from “average” high school athlete to Collegiate All American. The secret to his later athletic success. His assessment of nature vs. nurture and the extent that we can maximize potential. Alex’s dream of becoming an Olympic Decathlete and his unexpected introduction to the sport of Bobsled. He recounts the training process for the national team, what makes a great bobsledder and clarifies that Cool Runnings only got it half right.
