    • Christianity

This interview with Cristóbal Krusen will touch the deepest parts of your soul especially if you or someone you know has struggled with mental illness. We take a behind the scenes look at the full-length feature film LET ME HAVE MY SON for which Cris wrote the screenplay, directed, and played the leading role. The film offers a poignant message about breaking the stigma of mental illness and encourages you to become more compassionate and empathetic to those suffering from the clutches of mental disorders.

As the founder of Messenger Films (1988), Cris has worked as a writer/director of film and television ever since, helming productions in more than twenty countries. He is best known for Final Solution, More Than Dreams, Undaunted, Sabina K. and most recently, Let Me Have My Son. Over the last several years, Cristóbal has also begun fulfilling his childhood dream of becoming a writer. He is the author of Undaunted, They Were Christians, and Let Me Have My Son.

Working in multiple languages as a filmmaker, Cristóbal is known for a poetic visual style and the ability to draw intimate performances from actors. Above all, he is a “storyteller” who delights to engage his audience while addressing the deepest needs of the human heart.

ABOUT THE FILM LET ME HAVE MY SON:

Informed that his son, Benny, has recovered from schizophrenia, Ben Whitmore Sr. travels to Middlemouth Security Hospital to bring Benny home, only to discover he’s nowhere to be found.

This is the storyline of Let Me Have My Son (formerly titled The Puzzle Factory), a semi-autobiographical, emotion-laden tale of a father coming to grips with his son’s devastating mental illness. The topic could not be timelier; the National Institute of Mental Health reports that fully 1 out of 5 of our nation’s children now suffer from debilitating mental disorders.

Let Me Have My Son is based on the true story of the writer-director’s compelling journey with his firstborn son, Daniel, as told in the book of the same title. Principal photography for this feature film has been completed and post-production is well underway.

Did you know that one in five Americans is adversely affected by mental health conditions? In all likelihood, someone you know is among that number. Partner with Messenger Films to help start a movement addressing people’s spiritual, mental, and physical needs in the area of mental health. The opportunity to increase mental health awareness is now!
